Hello Friends
I got a new IT job that could pay me around $50/hr on contract in Edmonton. It lasts for an year and could go possibly extended.
I would like to seek advice from you in the below
1. How will be weather there ? worth to move.
2. How will be living costs i.e rents/food/grocesroies
3. we have 2 kids, how will be the medical system...like appointments with doctors and time lines...etc
4. how will be the schools...etc.
We may need to move from Vacnouver if at all we make decision. The current pay i m getting is around $35/hr. So is it worthy to move to such cold places...
Pl advice, as i will make my decision based on your inputs and other weiging factors...etc.

Do You have a permanent or contract position right now?? if it is permanent, you need to ask yourself whether its worth moving your children away from their school, friends etc for a contract position? is the extra money worth it? You will be paying more money in income taxes. Property taxes and auto insurance are higher than BC.
If your kids are already in school, then that should be a very big deciding factor. Is it worth uprooting them for a contract job?

Also if your new role is not permanent, what if your contract is not extended after one year? Also, Is your wife working presently in vancouver? Are you not satisfied with your present job/company? Are you not comfortable with city?
Regarding expenses comparison, I will not been able to comment as I have not landed in Canada till now.

1. Too cold, -20C is common during winter.
2. Relatively cheaper compared to Vancouver. Well,which place is more expensive than Vancouver anyway. No HST in AB. There is a good number of Indian community there.
3. Same as any other province,
4. There are some relatively good schools. Check the Fraser website for details.
$50/hr is reasonable depending on your expertise. But the jobs are relatively easy to get compared to Vancouver.
There are more than 1M people live in Edmonton bearing the cold. So you make the call if it is worth to move here.
