Time to bring up a heated discsussion.
So there have been lots of animated movies on Ramayan of late (like Luv Kush, legend of Ram etc). The more I understand the Ramayan, the less I believe in it. Don't get me wrong .. I am a Hindu and believe in its philosophy, but here we are taking about the story of RAM as I know it and how true it sounds to you:
e.g. we have the following events
- Ram communicating with moneys (Vanars) and bears.
- A money god (Hanuman) swallowing the sun .. really?
- A bird king (Jatayu) fighting with a demon like guy (Ravana) who has a flying chariot.
- Hanuman jumping over the ocean to fight with a long dragon kind creature in the sea.
- Hanuman tearing open his chest to reveal the image of RAm.
- Hanuman flying and carrying a mountain from Himalayas to Sri Lanka in a day.
And there are many more examples like this.
At one stage I feel its a lot of exaggeration by a poet of that time, but keeps me wondering. Maybe the animated movies and the TV serial make things look more ridiculous than they actually are in text.
I guess you have done very perfunctory analysis of Ramayan and perhaps like most other “secular” morons have never studied other religious texts. Ramayan is not about :
Ram communicating with moneys (Vanars) and bears.
Ramayan is about fight for justice, it is about values of the society, subjects and its rulers, it about the ideals and holding those ideals in most adverse circumstances, it is about supremacy of Dharma, it is about so many other virtues and ideals by which the society should live.
I guess there would be enough discussion on Internet about the message of Ramayan. Hope you would browse and do some research before criticizing. You claim to be a Hindu. It seems that you are one of those moron Hindu who is lazy and has been brain washed that accepts Ramayan as fiction. It is typical of only Hindu educated under the education system propagated by anti Hindu Nehru family.
That said, if you just apply a little of your lazy mind that so many things stated in Ramayan have become possible due to technological advances. For example , people like you 100 years back would laugh at the concept of Aeroplane which n ow is a reality or Ram Ban which can target exactly the place it is meant for. Guided missiles are same thing (Ask your Pakistani friends about it).
With computer technology, it is would be possible to decode language of animals or transporting huge mass by air.
Well I would not dwell much. Hope you spend some time in analyzing yur doubts rather than just posting on CD and thereby asking other CD members to do your job. You fit the description secular congress worker. Your idol might be Sonia and MMS. Just let us know what are your views about Sonia/MMS.
Lol. I am amused at this first response but I was expecting it and probably will get other "hate" msgs. Also just jumping to the conclusion that I idolize Sonia or haven't understood the message of Ramayan shows your sense of judgement (and you are wrong but you probably desire I should defend myself but I won't bother).
Anyway the discussion is not about the message of Ramayan or what you learn from it. The discussion is do you believe the events took place **as indicated** in the Ramayan in actual history.
You mention how technology today has acheived somewhat what is in Ramayan (congratulations .. On this point you actually discuss what needs to be discussed). Agreed there could be super technological or spiritual advancements at that time but still do you believe someone can swallow the sun or tear open his chest to reveal an image .. I don't think its fiction but I think it's a poet version of the events.
Btw try to have a health discussion and argue my points but don't judge me without knowing me .. Because that shows your maturity.
The Hindus believe that God Vishnu incarnated as Rama as human being to maintain dharma in the world. The Hindus believe that Rama is a historic man. Even the Indian politics is rotating around Rama
Ramayana is the creation of The Aryans who considered to have invaded India. Rama and Krishnan were actually two ordinary men. They were later upgraded to super humans by The Aryans. The illiterate people in India accepted their version and treated Rama and Krishnan as god. The Aryans invaded India and rewritten history, glorified themselves, and degraded the Dravidians as monkeys
It is a real story of a Prince but with loads of myth added to make it what it is.
I believe most historians now discredit the aryan invasion theory as a british invention to divide and conquer.
F Historians & f history .
You got to get one thing straight that religion is about faith more than anything else .
When it comes to faith , then all other things take a back seat including your super analysis !!!
Another moron the current or ex TN CM also came up with a similar idea and guess what ............ it matters nothing to those millions who believe in Ramayana or Rama .
You got 6 points --- ever wondered about the connection b/w the Lanka in Ramayana and Sri Lanka ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Fido.
My viewpoint - it is a fictional story book made up nicely to give 'right' direction to masses. An example of a great man of morality, courage, honesty & social responsibility. Lot of of frills added to make it interesting and appealing for everybody to read it. Ramayan is a great preaching tool.
Few facts against it being true story :
- No dates - when happened, when documented.
- Lot of fairy tale stuff including involvement of animals performing miralces.
- Imagination on Weaponry, flying objects & humans, stones floating in saline water in all tides!
- Strange creatures - Somebody sleeping for 6 months and then keeping awake for another 6 ?? why??, a man with ten heads having his weak point under a naval point.
- Bunch of strong monkies doing stuff which is even not made possible today by best of the spiritual gurus or scientific objects.
- How shrupnakha travelled to and from Lanka to get cut from laxman, did she also fly ?
- impossible navigation by everybody from ayodhya to down south and deep into waters.
- Of course the events were not video recorded, so it cannot be said with certainity that valmiki narrated it verbatim. He added lot of masala if it was a true story.
- If it is true story - It shows How weak Ravana and his army generals were in planning and warfare , what were they doing when the setu bridge was being built or Ram sena was walking on the feeble bridge to cross over? a coalition-ed foreign army lived, ate and fought on their own land and could beat them hands down. or they were conveniently projected stupid to glorify the main character. ?
Still one Fact amazes me - The writer valmiki had excellent knowledge of geography (in relation to knowledge present at that times) . It matches mostly the places. (The fact that he was dacoit before starting meditations may have gained his knowledge from his previous profession). But he flawed with distance and time formulas at many places.
(NOTE : I have posted only in spirit of topic of the thread , and have no ill feeling about any religion, but I expect stone pelting though)
