Conservatives have a hard time swallowing this bitter pill. A point to be noted is that the definition of a traditional family might be different from culture to culture. For Asians, a family might include grand parents. In west, a family is defined only as pop-mom-kid(s)
It depends on the individual, I suppose. Arguments can always be made for either choices. What I hate is when somebody throws in the expectation that one has to follow some dumb meaningless "rule" that one has to do this, then this and then this in order to be considered a normal person.

I have a feeling that courts and divorce laws have a big hand in this trend. Easy and expensive divorce settlements (generally in favor of the female) is discouraging many to take the plunge or to have kids. Alternative options are another reason...
Thats evolution.
With GAY marriages becoming more prevalent and the 'IN' thing in the next few decades - I believe the Man-Woman marriage will be a 'rare and special' occasion, if it ever happens...
Eventually, it will come down to something that was more prevalent in the Middle ages...and the cycle will continue...
