We became (a family of 4) became PR in December 2007 based on Arranged Opinion of Employment. Two of my children are University students in Canada since August 2008. I and my wife have spent a total of about 60 days in Canada during our two visits so far. We have good jobs outside Canada (in Africa) and are quite comfortable. We need help from CD's to advice us on:

1. Whether to resign from the current job and come to canada and try our luck. We are Senior citizens age group and have been involved in College/ university lecturing throughout our working life?

2. Our current contracts are valid until July 2011.

3. Can I try to ask for an extension of the entry date beyond the normal 3 year period based on the validity of my current contract?

4. What are the possible venues in terms of employment for us?

5. Will a small corner store be a good idea for us?

6. Once you forefiet the PR status does it affect in getting visitor's visa to visit children?

7. Please assist in whichever way you can.

8. We were thinking to resign from here and come and try for 4 to 6 months and if nothing works out them go to India for a peaceful retired life.

Corner stores in Canada are a waste and most of them is in decline (with increased smuggled tobacco and the lack of being able to sell liquor). It is mainly reserved for people who know little english.
It is very hard to get jobs in your sector here. You could try private tutoring.
Have you researched the option of settling here and getting free healthcare, free drug plan, Social assistance from here? You will not be eligible for Pension and OAS from here.Once you get the citizenship, then you are free to go whereever you want .
Again these are legal options available in Canada. You are doing nothing illegal with these options.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.

I am 60 + and currently working as a college Instructor in Africa. We have been in Africa for over 25 years now. We are able to save net around $2000.00 per month. My contract here ends in July 2011 and there is a possibility for a renewal for another 2 - 3 years. We (a family of 4) beacme PR in December 2007 and after that we (I and my wife) have spent about 2 months in Canada. My two children are already staying/studying in canada since August 2008.

We need help to make the decision whether to come to canada or not? If yes then what possibly is there for us to keep us busy and earn for running expenses?

I can afford to invest up to $50000.00 if that can help us to make our livelihood comfortably without much stressful life.

We are very comfortable here with all the facilities including medical insurance.

We need to decide in the next few months.

Please guide us in making right decision.
