Thanks for the suggestion Chandresh .
Basically i had not put singapore in my options to move so just missed it.
YES yours and K.Raj's input is needed for a insight on singapore and i will put my purchasing power parity and other figures for it as well.
It seems that my purchasing power parity figures and the real life figures are pretty close as seen from the figures we got for canada and USA .

Hi
For the life in Middle East & Dubai in particular, the following points are important.
Salary is Tax free.
Many companies provide their employee with accommodation.
So u don’t spend on Rent, Electrictiy & Water. Local telephone calls are free and internet charge is very low. Most of the companies provide the employee with a Company car. So you don’t send on petrol, v. insurance etc.
If you have a family contract, then medical expenses is paid by the company.
So except for the amount you spend on grocery, school fee and your social expenses you save the balance. Roughly 70 to 80% of your salary can be saved. The outlook of Desi’s in this part of the world is different we have come here to save money, so lets save the maximum. God knows when you will have to leave tomorrow or may be after a year or may be after 5 years.
So saving 10 lakhs is not a big deal for a senior executive/Junior Manager and above it can be done is say two years.
Cheers!!

I know about Boston since my bro lives there. And I have friends in NY. You normally wouldn't live in the city but would commute from NJ, across the river.
10 lakhs = 22000 USD
That means a savings of 1833 every month.
2 bed apt for 1600 incl. utilities.
For food and groc, entertainment add 800/month.
1 Car payment and ins , add 600/month. (Generally, couples in big cities own a single car until they have 2 kids)
So, total exp/month = 3000
So, take home/month = 4833
Assume you are in a 30% tax bracket.
So, total gross salary/year = 82851
Reqd. wage/hr = 19.92
Mind you this calc does not include contributions to a 401k and assumes health insurance is paid by your employers.
My calculation in the previous post was for Boise, Portland.
My question now is that on H1B are both spouse allowed to work ?
In Dubai i assume its the man who is working so that should be kept in mind as well.
In Canada we came to consensus that both Husband and wife working for 40 hrs a week and both getting $ 24 a hour can acieve that figures.
