Of course, the building will charge you an arm and leg for this.

It's too late now but you should have offered to replace the window and either done it yourself or found a handyman to do it for you. The cost (even if you hired a handyman) should have been within $50.

Are you quoting the cost of handyman's hourly rate or the broken window?

I don't think a good handyman will charge less than $40-$50 per hour.

Of course, if you go to a"professional" handyman who advertises in the Toronto Star, they will charge a hefty amount. You can find plenty of really skilled people who do this kind of easy repairs in their part-time on craigslist. They don't charge by the hour but by the nature of job. Of course, if the job is complicated or damage extensive then one should seek professional help.

Replacing glass is a relatively simple task and I have replaced damaged windows myself. You can easily source the glass from warehouses, get it cut according to your specifications. The actual replacement takes less 30 minutes.:)

Investpro, I meant GOOD, not just any handyman.

The handymen I have used are licensed professional tradespeople (all in-one; electricians, plumbers, carpenters, basement makers etc.). They also carry liability insurance, which in my opinion should be must, and you'll know this better than anyone else.

If you know one who is good and fits the above profile, then PM me his no., I can refer him to many people.

Warm regards and Happy Holidays!

Maybe your insurance covers this sort of thing?
