One of my favorites of all time is "Silence of the lambs". Not exactly a horror movie, but not for the squeamish as well.
I have not seen a more brilliantly made movie and the casting was pure perfection. 10/10.
Some other good ones that come to mind and I don't have think been mentioned already
1. Fargo
2. Chances are - Not exactly an all time great, but a really good light hearted romantic comedy starring one of my favorite actors, Robert Downey Junior.
3. Go - Kinda like a teenage pulp fiction, good "light" watching
4. Back to the future - sci -fi
5. Serenity - sci-fi

Are you there?
Speaking of horror, the original "The Exocist" takes the cake.
I'll need to add that to my selections at the begining of the thread.
To me, it's the ultimate horror/occult movie.
Completely gripping.
First time I watched it, couldn't sleep through the night for several days.
Just thinking about the "head turning" and the "reverse spider crawling" scenes still gives me the creeps.
Amongst all my selected movies listed, this is perhaps the only one that I'll pass on watching again, thank you very much lol

I beg to differ. To me "The Shining" is the scariest movie of all time. "The Exorcist" uses gruesome images to invoke horror where as "The Shining" creates the same effect by portraying the gradual onset of lunacy on a sane person.
When Jack Nicholson repeatedly types “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” on his typewriter, one could feel strong emotions of fear creeping in.
This movie is a must see for all horror fans.

Oh Yeah... Cinderalla Man was a very good one... Along the same lines, I also enjoyed "The Seabiscuit", it just shows how to make the best out of what you have...

* Escape from Sobibor
* Five Men Army
* I dont remember the name but at the end 'the Bad guy' refused to give in (I rather would die) and was standing @ 45 degree on roof of the running train in snow storm. Train had no breaks.
* The Great Escape
* The Ghost & The Darkness

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
three more neat ones and among my top picks. All three are academy award winners.
Cider house rules: Great storyline and performance by Michael Caine, Tobey maguire and Charlize Theron. A feel good movie in spite of being unpredictable. Adapted by a novel by John Irving (he also wrote 'son of the circus'...set in India...those who liked 'A fine Balance' by Rohinton Mistry will like the 'son of the circus')
Traffic: Gritty movie about drugs and the battle against them. Michael Douglas is amazing as a powerful govt anti-drug czar brought to his knees by his daughters weaknesses. Benicio Del Toro is good too as a cop caught in the corrupt mexican system. A glimpse into the seemingly futile war on drugs.
Pans Labyrinth: Spanish movie with english subtitles. A Guillermo del Toro movie.
Good story. Contrary to what it may seem..DO NOT watch with kids. Too much direct violence...albeit necessary. A fairytale for adults.
