This is what is the letter says. So if any one who has been to the US consulate recently may know if the rules have changed. It would be a big problem if we go to the consulate with my son and they tell us that he cannot come in.

Secondly this is getting too confusing. Now the letter does not say we have to get DS 158 but on the NVARS site the confirmation package (after I booked my oline appt) has a link to DS 158. I hope this is just a generic link and hopefully that do not require DS 158 for B2.

Found something on the web site .... check the last line ... since he is also appying i see no problem in taking him. The letter bascially states that he is not "required" to come along. http://www.amcits.com/toronto.asp

I have a link to the FAQ section on the nvars.com site.

https://www.nvars.com/Production/FAQ.htm

The site says children under 13 should not attend. Does that mean they are not required to come along but if they come it is fine.

Thanks Puttoo, do you know if anyone has a recent experience.

Quote:

5) Are my dependents required to attend my appointment with me?

If your dependents are intending to apply for a U.S. visa, then they should accompany you to the interview. In general, all applicants, including infants and children, must appear in person for the visa interview. In addition to an interview, the consular officer will digitally capture the fingerprints of applicants ages 14-79. In the case of applicants under 14 years, a parent or guardian must appear in person to accompany the child.

Exception: For TORONTO ONLY, children under 13 and adults over 79 should not attend the appointment with you. However they are required to be in the consular district at the time of your appointment.

You can take the kid.. they won't object... If you ever been to the US Consulate in India, don't get confused with that and here. It's totally different level of attittude and service.

Last time I went in - early last year - there was a lady with a 1-2 yr old baby. She even gotto jump ahead in the queue....

Yes, you can take kid along. My friend took her kid who is born here.

And we took our 6 months old daughter with milk bottle but in 2003.

Thanks to all.

Just one urgent question before we go for the interview.

Who signs the form DS 156 form for my son. I have signed on the line for the person who has prepared the application. Do I leave the signature of the Applicant line empty? I ask this because all Indian passport forms require a child's finger print.

Just for info for all applicants US visitor

- We did not take our son but we saw a couple of families with kids and hence no problem if you take your kid(s) along. But no food, water, etc is allowed. So better be prepared for any unusual request from your kid(s).
- If you are visiting Canada and are applying for a visa to US, your chances of getting one are pretty slim. We saw a couple of cases being refused.
- DS 157 is not required for children. We prepared for our son but the lady gave it back to us.
