I also immigrated from Middle East but before my final departure I came here for 15 days just to feel the CANADA. Result I brought EVERYTHING ( I really mean everything except furniture)from the Middle East. Some items you may find cheap in Canada but let me tell you the are of very poor quality, specially electronics and garments. It is very hard to find Japan or Europe made or good quality items at resonable price. Every thing here, including Canadain flag, is made in China. For more details feel free to write me at

Thanks and regards.

Hi Biomed,

How you managed to buy electronics from Middle East when the voltage system is totally different in Canada?

Good to see you back Anjana.

Almost all electronics available in Asia (thought not the really cheap ones like AM FM radios etc) are of dual voltage and many times, multi system. Hense it is not a problem to use electronics of Dubai in Canada. My own Amplifier, cassette deck, VCD player, speakers, TV, Laptop etc are made and bought in Singapore (same like Dubai)

I think Chandresh already responded to Anjana but I would like to add one thing here. If you are really interested in having good Microwave oven get one from the Middle east or Far East. Now the glitch is no MO is available with dual voltage option, though they are available with dual frequency (50/60hz) which is also very important to have in a Microwave oven. I have solution for that. In Canada cooking stove and dryer work on 220V, so you can request an electrician to make one 220V outlet in the kitchen. If you are an Engineer or Technically inclined person it can be done by yourself too.

Jyoti, Washing Machine, Electrical cooking stoves, Fridge, Dryer are always provided by the house owner (Apartments are exception where you won't get Washing Machine and Dryer). I would not advise you to bring these heavy machines. I will prepare one list of the items you can bring from there within a day or two and post here. In case of any other question I can always be contacted at

Thanks and regards.
