Hi,
We are landing in Toronto in May-07 and currently reside in South America. My husband works for a Canadian co. cause of which our residency status in Canada is not affected and we can live in S.America as long as the job requires him to. My only question was, since we have no plans of relocating to Canada soon, what list I prepare for "list of goods to follow"? We don't plan to bring in any goods at the time of landing.
Anyone ever faced this?
Please help....I'm new to CD too.
Thanks..............Jona
I would recommend preparing a lengthy list of 'goods to follow'. Atleast you will have the option of bringing them over at a later date. Whether you do so later is your wish.

Thanks Goldie, I think we'll do so, anyways we can change the list later (at time of final relocation).
Thanks again........Jona

Hi Chandresh,
I asked the same question, if we can change it then why they need it? I spoke to our lawyer and she said our case is little different from other residents. My husband got the job first (Canadian co.) and they sponsored our PR. Our Duty station is South America and the co. wants him to stay here for few more years. If one is a PR but working with a Canadian co. outside Canada the PR status (to live 3 years at least in Canada out of the 5 given after the landing is not applicable) remains. We are not obliged to move to Canada as long as he works for a Canadian co. We are just visting Canada for 10 days to land (and get our PR cards) and then will go back to SAmerica.
That's why I asked why we need this list and what shall I write in there cause we are not relocating now...when we'll do it...I don't know. Our lawyer also suggested making a list to follow and we can change it later whenever we finally come to stay and live in here.
I really appreciate this site...a lot of help for Indians. I'm still new to it and trying to know people around.
Thanks..................Jona
Hi...jona,
Does it mean that you can be outside Canada with Canadian PR and after 3 years eligible to apply for Cadaian citizenship?
To the best of my knowledge this can happen only if you are getting paid in Canada and paying Candian Tax.
Regarding relocation....its not a big deal....I have relocated from Mumbai in the month of Jan and my shipment arrived in April....you can mail me at

Hi,
Is it 3 years or 5 years for Canadian citizenship? Our lawyer said after 5 years of PR one can apply for citizenship. I'll check with her again. We pay local taxes, according to the MOU with the co. and the local govt. all expatriates pay local taxes. I'm not sure of more details. This landing trip we take is actually to clarify a lot of issues with our lawyer and HR of my husband's co. He's also from Bombay. I'll mail you soon.
Thanks................Jona
