I was told by my friends that a fight ensued in this center and many desis went in and thrashed the place and manhandled the consulate officials.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Unfortunately, I was around when this incident happened.

"The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be"
S and Timon,
Could you shed more light as to what happened? It will help the forum members understand the situation better.
IMO, Serves the counsulate officials right for offering such poor and pathetic customer services. But also the officials could have gone to the police and the desi's could have landed in hot water as Police consider assault on Counsulate officials as a serious crime.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
It is difficult to come out of BABU mentality for indian 'officials' posted on overseas missions. Instead of looking into the cause and reason for any unrest, 'banning' them is the easiest way out..."na rahega bans..na bajegi bansuri"..I think it is upto us to make a strong representation to them since ultimately 'we' are the ones who are going to be punished. Even in Toronto, since they decided to move to a new location, they should have made adequate arrangements for the public without causing inconvienence to the neighbouring offices...

Well.. we were all standing in a line at the basketball court..then told to move to another place and wait outside (since having too many people inside the building is against the fire code, which definitely make sense). Few people refused to wait outside and the drama started. I went outside to wait. then, shouting started, saw the police coming and finally we were told that the services were suspended.
I cannt really blame the consulate officials for this incident, honestly.
The end result for me was to have the passports mailed to them, received them back after around 10 days last wednesday, a couple of days after my family was supposed to leave and we had to change the ticket dates.
I am not sure whom to blame for the whole incident, myself for delaying the visa process, the people who created chaos at Malton or the consulate people who promises to send the visas in 3 days, but, eventually sends it after 10 days...
