We applied for VFS in 2009 and I have only good things to say about the VFS folks. They were friendly, professional and courteous.
VFS is kinda stuck between the morons at the Indian consulate who have information that is ambiguous at best and our desi crowd who all of a sudden manage to forget the concept of queuing or reading instructions and forget all sorts of documents. Then they have to contend with the entire family of 6 showing up, even though it is not required and the six consists of 3 screaming kids. Then there were few, when I was there, who for no reason were rude to the VFS agents and that too the folks at VFS have to contend with.
So, yeah, I would demand more than $20 from somebody if I were put in front of such a situation.
Believe it or not, courtesy, common sense and professional behavior has to work both ways and does help move things smoothly.

I still remember my B1 and H1 interviews at US Consulate Chennai. That time US visa services are managed by TTK. For B1, Company offered me stay in Taj. I never stayed in Taj before and should have fully enjoyed it. But i was totally tensed for next day interview and didn't get enough sleep. For H1, I stand outside US consulate in heavy rain. By that time, I already have US and Canadian visa's in my passport, carried all supporting documents like LCA, Petition, Offer letters etc.. but still tensed about outcome. Thank God. I never have visa rejection or bad time with visa officers.
When compared with the level of anxiety in US visa interviews, I felt relaxed at Indian mission. I visited brampton center for passport renewal. At counter, They said my photos (taken by a desi photo studio in hurontario st) are not as per specification. I went back with another set of photos and everything is smooth.
They asked me to comeback with right documents. I know I am dealing with Indian mission and I am sure that I will get my passport renewed anyway.
VFS is a world wide organization that does visa facilitation for over 35 countries including USA , CAnada and India..
They have definitely helped simplify the process.. the problem is the indian government/consulate that likes to make the process very complicated..
Somebody was raising the question of submitting the originals.. If u want a US visa , the same process is followed, originals are submitted at VFS, no one complains about that.. so why do we complain now..
If anything our Desi babus should be shot for creating useless procedures for everything..
I was just narrating my personal experience, I was asked for a document that was not on the checklist just like many others who were also pissed off. What has patriotism got to do with that?
mcg7 needs to get his brain checked.
If he is so patriotic he get the F%$* out of here and join the Indian army.
