Drilling in Alberta is slowed down this year. Last year 500 rigs were drilling this time ,but only 300 rigs are operational this year.

The report predicts same situation for next two years. Don't know what will happen after that.

I agree that Alberta is doing well. We put a lot of people there but do not forget we also put 10 times more get jobs in Ontario.

Ontario is still the engine. Going slower but still a very strong engine. But Alberta is a great potential for jobs no doubt.

Slowdown expected in Western Canadian oil and gas sector

By DARRELL WINWOOD

Herald-Tribune staff

What a difference a year can make in the oil and gas industry.

As the early snow flies in Grande Prairie, the oilpatch has geared back up for another season of activity, but across western Canada there will be fewer rigs active and wells drilled.

The price for natural gas and crude oil has dropped significantly from the record levels seen in the last 12 months. Natural gas is hovering between $6.50 and $7.50 per million British thermal units (MMBTU) off its high of $15 in December 2005. Crude oil prices have dropped to just under $60 a barrel from the $75-levels seen in the summer.

Add all of that to ever-increasing labour and material costs and it was only natural for activity to slow down.
