Hey Massood,

I need some help on moving to canada with my Husband. I am a canadian citizen and i have applied for my husband. We are currently living in US and are planning to leave for canada around first week of september as my husband got his visa. My main question is that we are planning to rent a UHAL truck and are trying to move all our stuff to canada. I wanna know what duty and taxes i will be charged on my car..... i haven't got any proper information regarding bringing a car for US to canada. Could u plz give me some information regarding the GST tax that i have to pay on my car. I called the border information service today and the lady told me that i don't need to pay any sort of taxes once i bring my car in through border from US. But most of the immigration sites say that i do have to pay 7% GST..... Plz help me as i am really lost....????

What is your status in the US. AFAIK, if you've owned the car for more than a year, then you don't need to pay the tax.

That is only if your car is less than a year old.

Iinstead of typing that long query for Massood, if you would have googled for "importing car into Canada" you would have got your answers without getting lost!
