By the way did you straddle the equator in Equador ?

Not yet to Ecuador and neither Bogota. After this discussion me and hubby have decided to take a tour of Quito and Cuenca (two cities of Ecuador) in 2009. Let's see what vibes we get.

Exactly - I felt the same way.
Hence my suggestion to take the Equador posting.
In the end, you should do what "feels" right, not creating a balance sheet and making decisions like that.
It never turns out that way anyway - the pros and cons that you list in your balance sheet are speculations.
Realities could be very different.

You echo my hubby's words, sometimes I do say thank god he did not listen to me! He's fully geared up and is in favour of Ecuador, if I don't want to go then the family can live in Canada ,he'll work 3 weeks in Quito and 3 weeks in Toronto (I don't know if I want to do that living alone, neither the employers are in favour of rotation as it poses emotional issues with employees, staying away from family is never welcomed by them)

Rotation scedule is not good in the long run.It takes an emotional toll. You better stay in Ecador with your husband. It will be a good expirience.

As far as safety and security are concerened just trust in god and read this. This brilliant little tale by Somerset Maugham seems a good analogy to predestination. This by the way, is the shortest short story ever written.

The Appointment in Samara
By Somerset Maugham

A certain merchant in Baghdad sent his servant to the market to buy some provisions. A little while later, the servant returned looking white in the face. In a trembling voice he said, "Just now in the market place I was jostled by a man in the crowd, and when I turned I saw it was Mr. Death. He looked at me and made a threatening gesture. Please lend me your horse, because I want to go to Samara where Mr. Death will not be able to find me." The merchant agreed and lent the scared man his horse. The servant mounted the horse and rode away as fast as the animal could gallop. Later that day, the merchant went down to the market place and saw Mr. Death standing in the crowd. He approached him and said, "Why did you make a threatening gesture to my servant when you saw him this morning?" "That was not a threatening gesture," said Mr. Death. "It was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Baghdad, because I have an appointment with him tonight in Samara."

Well I was in same boat..I live and work in Ireland and have a PR for canada but decided against moving.I am kindaa well settled in ireland, have a nice senior job,my wife has one too.weather is nicer, closer home, education system is good.Ireland gives us everything canada can...infact life quality is better as less population, slower pace of life, friendly and helpful people. We do miss indian temples, traditions and small numer of expats at times..but then one always go to london to experience these things...moreover who has got time if you both work and have a 1 year old child who is very energetc...
