I'm surprised that You asked what difference it would've made if India and Pakistan were one? Have you been on vacation in another dimension all these years or what? Read the news, look around. The resources that India has to commit every year just to repel Pakistan's infiltration and Terrorism efforts could be better used for a stronger economy, a stronger military and a better educated workforce. To answer your question in a nutshell, if India wasn't divided, India would be a Super Power now or close to it.

Man you are in some dream land or what. First you blame MKG for partition and now pull out from your family history album that only Pakistan is visible enemy for India which is stopping India from becoming Super Power. If Pakistan had been part of India, what beyond Pakistan Borders. Do you believe we could have left Borders unprotected if India and Pakistan was one country. I believe your place is in Defence Ministry of India. Probably by now you must have solved terrorism problem OR are you blaming Pakistan for terrorism activity worlwide.
Dont direct geocities sites. They are one of discussion websites. Someday you may find some geocities site representing direct attention to views of Desi Tiger represented at CD.
What BS you are representing regarding MKG playing politics against hindu and muslims. If he was so interested in power, Nehru or Jinnah stood no chance against MKG plopularity.
Did you notice still you are denoting MKG and not KG. That is his mahanta. I remember MKG grandson denying comments you are quoting here. They were misinterpreted by journalist, Check out archives of times, I have read his interview.
Listening to your reason for not admiring MKG I have nothing more to say then repeat Jake3d....
so inspite of having nothing but admiration for someone like him...who was a role model for countless people all over the world, from dr.Martin Luther King jr to Nelson Mandela, i probably dont have to defend Gandhi even in this subtle way .:)

you may find that most of India's communal problems today are a result of the seeds planted by Gandhi and his ridiculous policies.

Like I said, It's my opinion.

DT

blame the britsh not only gandhi they had the divide and rule policiy to start with. what about everyone else who started dividing up religions? what about the (foolish) people who blindly started communal fights?

noone is perfect. i suggest people who critisize our leaders dirrect their strong views on some of the exisiting politicians and ministers and make a difference if they feel so strongly about it. It will help everyone.

And then after these people (who complain abt leaders) have put in the effort and others still crib about something that happened as an after fact of their sincere efforts to help out, they will understand abit about what it takes to go the distance vs sit and give arm chair historical reports.

First of all, I didn't pull out the Hindu Muslim tensions story out of my family history, it is a well know fact people like you usually choose to ignore as it hurts your delicate sensibilities. Secondly, the fact that you keep trying to pull my "ancestors" in this debate proves to me that you have nothing meaningful to say and so Mr. Jago Desi, the only one representing BS here is You.

If we didn't have Pakistan we'd have one problem less. I never said anything about leaving our borders "undefended". That would be possible only if Short Sighted individuals like you were put in power in the Defence Ministry.

Don't get too happy when I refer to Gandhi as MKG, His full name is Mohandas KaramChand Gandhi, or did you omit reading the facts in the books because you were so much in awe of the "Mahatma"?

As far as Gandhi's "Political Agenda", he was a "king Maker", a behind-the-scenes type of guy. Had he not been assassinated, he'd be running Nehru around like a puppet.

Gandhi is a role model for a lot of people around the world , Sure! but how many of these people have looked beyond his preachings, into the events around that time, into the communal violence, the partition, India Pakistan's problems and the role played by gandhi, Nehru & Jinnah? NONE!

Anyways, I am not going to waste anymore time on a debate that will lead to nowhere. You are entitled to your beliefs and I to mine. I am not trying to persuade you or anybody else to start thinking any different about MKG. All I ask is that since this is a public forum, you stop asking people Not to express views that do not match your own.

---- This debate is about Gandhi, not Mulayam or Laloo or other such unsavory types.

--- I assume that you have "gone the distance" and know what it takes? Or is it the same old "Criticizing our leaders is Taboo" harp that you are harping? :D

Really? So people have adopted Gandhis strategies in the civil liberties struggle and anti-aparthied movement just based on hype and superficial knowledge about Gandhi? That special knowledge is apparent to only some amongst us?

So these icons were apparently missing something when they wrote:

Albert Einstien once wrote of Gandhi: Generations to come, it may be, will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.

Nelson Mandela on Gandhi: He dared to exhort nonviolence in a time when the violence of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had exploded on us; he exhorted morality when science, technology and the capitalist order had made it redundant; he replaced self-interest with group interest without minimizing the importance of self.
