I'm surprised that You asked what difference it would've made if India and Pakistan were one? Have you been on vacation in another dimension all these years or what? Read the news, look around. The resources that India has to commit every year just to repel Pakistan's infiltration and Terrorism efforts could be better used for a stronger economy, a stronger military and a better educated workforce. To answer your question in a nutshell, if India wasn't divided, India would be a Super Power now or close to it.

you may find that most of India's communal problems today are a result of the seeds planted by Gandhi and his ridiculous policies.
Like I said, It's my opinion.

First of all, I didn't pull out the Hindu Muslim tensions story out of my family history, it is a well know fact people like you usually choose to ignore as it hurts your delicate sensibilities. Secondly, the fact that you keep trying to pull my "ancestors" in this debate proves to me that you have nothing meaningful to say and so Mr. Jago Desi, the only one representing BS here is You.
If we didn't have Pakistan we'd have one problem less. I never said anything about leaving our borders "undefended". That would be possible only if Short Sighted individuals like you were put in power in the Defence Ministry.
Don't get too happy when I refer to Gandhi as MKG, His full name is Mohandas KaramChand Gandhi, or did you omit reading the facts in the books because you were so much in awe of the "Mahatma"?
As far as Gandhi's "Political Agenda", he was a "king Maker", a behind-the-scenes type of guy. Had he not been assassinated, he'd be running Nehru around like a puppet.
Gandhi is a role model for a lot of people around the world , Sure! but how many of these people have looked beyond his preachings, into the events around that time, into the communal violence, the partition, India Pakistan's problems and the role played by gandhi, Nehru & Jinnah? NONE!
Anyways, I am not going to waste anymore time on a debate that will lead to nowhere. You are entitled to your beliefs and I to mine. I am not trying to persuade you or anybody else to start thinking any different about MKG. All I ask is that since this is a public forum, you stop asking people Not to express views that do not match your own.

noone is perfect. i suggest people who critisize our leaders dirrect their strong views on some of the exisiting politicians and ministers and make a difference if they feel so strongly about it. It will help everyone.
---- This debate is about Gandhi, not Mulayam or Laloo or other such unsavory types.
And then after these people (who complain abt leaders) have put in the effort and others still crib about something that happened as an after fact of their sincere efforts to help out, they will understand abit about what it takes to go the distance vs sit and give arm chair historical reports.
--- I assume that you have "gone the distance" and know what it takes? Or is it the same old "Criticizing our leaders is Taboo" harp that you are harping?

Jake, as you are so fond of saying, Let's agree to disagree. I am not wasting a beautiful Saturday debating over dead people. I look towards the future and right now the future is promising a nice Lunch
