I got a ticket for speeding (60 in a 50 Zone). $40. Sent in the check soon.
Today the check was returned and with a note saying:
----------------------------------------
"The certificate of offence was filed late by the police. This ticket has been refused by the court and returned to the police.
No payment is required by you.
Please note that this does not prevent the police from taking further action by re-issuing the charge by way of summons."
---------------------------------------
Anyone else had this experience.

Are you there?

yes, now if they send you a ticket you have the right to appeal. The officer who issued ticket to you has to appear at court to justify ticket. If officer is absent the ticket get nullified like it has been done by court now.

I understand that insurance companies disregard your first 'minor' ticket, while determining your insurance premium. However, a second or subsequent ticket will almost invariably result in a substantial increase.
In regards to speeding - any speeding ticket for a speed ranging from 0 - 49 km/hr would qualify as a 'minor' ticket and would therefore not lead to an immediate increase in insurance premium, notwithstanding any demerit points accumulated on that ticket.
This has held true for me, with my insurance policies from Meloche Monnex.
No idea about Merc's situation, looks like he got lucky - just wondering though, why weren't you challenging the ticket in the first place?
Well, let me add a some more detail.
I was actually doing 70, but the officer reduced it to 60 in a 50 zone.
He also said no points on my driving license.
No reason as far as contesting goes, just avoiding the hassle of having to go. If there was going to be points then I would have gone.
Anyway, if they reissue the ticket, I will contest.
bisonHi guys,
I got a traffic ticket today.. I was driving at 70 kms at speed posted of 50. I got 3 point.
Anyone can suggest what to do?.. As I have very few days to decide

Not sure if you can fight the ticket but you are looking at "increased" insurance premiums next time you renew your insurance or may be sooner

We will find a way or we will make one
