I installed a new floppy drive. It showed 'new hardware found' . I installed the standard driver.
It will not work though. When i insert a floppy the light will not come on.
The cable is fitted correctly,
How can i 'enable' the floppy drive in cmos?
I believe you can do it when the computer is booting.

UGM...FD should have been recognized by ur MB..... DID you check if the polarities are correct ? ALso the wires may have been loose..

Lastly what OS do you have ? Win 98/Win Xp or Linux ? Whats the brand name of ur FD ?

When computer is starting to boot up, press DEL key (works with most computers). This will take you to BIOS setup. Check if BIOS detects FD.

I don't think problem is BIOS not detecting FD or wrong cable connections as you were able to get to "new hardware found" prompt in your OS. Have you tried to copy files or access floppy in my computer? The FD light only comes on when floppy is being read/write.

If read/write fails, most likely FD is bad or you installed wrong driver.
