Gradually my past experience started getting recognized within the organization and within 2 years I reached to atleast a respectable position. I also see that in next 3-4 years, I might get the same position I was working on i.e. VP.

CAn I request you to add yourself to the list on page 1, and post a message sharing your story with the others in the "success stories" forum.

And that just makes me a tad curious - Any current CDs on this board who own a BMW(above 3 series)/Merc(over C240)/Jaguar(over 'X' type) etc. .....ummm a new one I mean:D. Just want to know what it feels like inside one of those. Are they really worth the price and in what way?

BL would be the best person to answer that - what do you say BL??

I do not own one as yet (when I could - I decided to wait till I wanted a second car - and by the time the right time came - I felt it would look odd that the President of the company and lowest level clerk in the same company driving similar cars!!!), but hope to give one to my son as a gift one day!

My choice is Jaguar, but he prefers BMW two door!

I have added myself to the list, but that is only because, for the purpose the premise of "successful" has been selectively delimited to securing a reasonably well paying job.
May I ask you also BL, to please add your name to the list with relevant details.

Diogenes,

I wasn't asking you to add yourself to the "list" you're making. To be honest, I don't know what purpose it serves when we've only started the section recently. I was asking you to add your story in the Success Storeis section.

And yes, I'll add mine there soon too.

Btw, if you want to see a lot of first generation immigrants with some really fancy cars, the best place would be the temple. I go to the VaishnaoDevi temple in Oakville on Tuesday nights ocassionally (when they have aarti) and there's some fancy cars there allright. Mostly first generation immigrants.

What about a Lexus? Bill Gates drives one. Or are you a cynic when it comes to that?:)
I am first gen and drive a Lexus. Bought it 5th year I was in Canada. Have had it for 6 now. It's a 400.
Don't mean to boast, but a Lex 400 is considered high end.

OK so I own a Lex 400. I should be super smart and all but I cannot for the life of me see where the success stories are. Can I post mine? I am not desi, but lived in India and am married to a desi.
Please let me know where I can access the thread/forum.
Chal, have to go to work. See you.

The intention is just to keep all the relevant data in one place and the purpose it will serve is to present some interesting data"at a glance".

I don't have much of a success story BL. For me it was a virtual cakewalk. For whatever it is worth, and since you insist, here it is:
I landed in Canada on 15th January 1998. We knew a Candian family very well. They picked us up from the airport and we stayed with them. I started applying for jobs. After a couple of weeks I got a call from Addecco. I went in and they tested my skills in MS Excel and English. I did very well in both. They recruited me right away and posted me to work with Imperial Oil in their Office on St. Clair. I continued applying at other places. Also got called for interviews but most were from recruiters and not the employers themselves. At the end of March, that is two and a half months after landng,I was called for an interview by the company I currently work for. After going thro the first level of technical interview I was interviewed by the GM of their IT dept. He said that my resume was ok but that he didn't know me from Adam. He therefore suggested that I work for them on contract for a period of three months, at the end of which if they considered me good enough they would take me on board. I agreed. I worked and completed the assignment that I was given, to their satisfaction. And as agreed they took me on board. And I have been with them ever since. That's it!
Not much of the real kind of "success story", is it? I mean, what good is one that does not have the ingredients of struggle and sweat, hopes and disappointments, trials and tribulations? Without them the story is insipid and dull. What we need are those that arouse fervour and excitement, that inspire and encourage, that act as motivators etc.

Being an atheist, I guess I will not be able to have the pleasure of such an autoshow!:D But are you sure they are first gen desis? Just to clarify, my definition of first gen desis, implies only those that have come here as full grown, ready for employment adults direct from their home country. Although they technically qualifying as first gen, I do not include those that came here as kids or infants with their parents and have grown up to be adults in this country, not do I include the $$$loaded$$$ people coming from the middle east or elsewhere. I hope I am not wrong in assuming that the "success stories" we discuss and talk about is with reference to only those who have come here for a better life/career that they thought they did not have back home.

I am sure anyone can post his success story. It is one of the new forums created and it is fourth from top in 'About Canada' on the 'Charcha' tab.
