I guess the emp aat Maker Chambers, gave you correct advise. You might want to try opening a Savings account with ICICI Bank. Check their website, there is a hyperlink for prospective immigrant to Canada. Once you are here, you can open the chequing acct with any bank you wish, and then transfer money from ICICI to that bank. In my opinion, that would be cheapest and fastest.

The reason why I suggest to open chequing acct with any Canadian Bank is coz of branch & ABM network. Once you are here, do contact me. I shall help you.

why not you get the travellers cheques instead of DD

that's absolutely right, intransit. TCs are the best option. I have mentioned this numerous times that Thomas Cook India issue commision free TCs and you can also encash the same w/out any svc chgs.

hi real

thanks for the advice.

i have been in this forum for around last 1 weeks but have come to more about canada and Indians in canada. I am more then happy to see how every one this forum is interested in helping others who are immigrating to canada.

keep it up guys. i belive in future when i immigrate to canada i find guys like u who help me.
