I am sorry if this has been asked before. We are in a process of applying super visa for my parents. I had applied few years ago for my Mother-in-law. We filled out all the forms and mailed them to India so she can sign and submit there along with other required documents.

Now my father mentioned that 2 of his friends got super-visa lately. They just sent the bank statement and medical to their daughter and everything else was done within canada. Didn't even sign any form or something. And then got passport request from Delhi. Now I am having hard time believing that, and I am not finding anything regarding this on CIC. I am 100% sure that we have to submit the super-visa application in parents home country.

But just checking with experts if I am missing anything.

Canadian Government does not process a Super Visa Application without they filing for ONE.

We all know and I am sure you do too, that without filling out an application form for the Super Visa, they will not be able to request or grant an ENTRY into Canada for anyone. There are other checks that get done upon submission.

There are a few of such basic formalities that need to get done and it mostly gets done while the Parents/Grand Parents are all outside of Canada. The application can be filed from anywhere and the request for their PP submission is done from the ND Offices, as the residents and the PPs are there at the other end. The facts speak for themselves and I would not doubt one bit as to what transpired. Also see link.

The Super Visa Medicals are done at the Indian End at an approved location/s.

Your dad is right, Inderpal. There is online application route. We recently got it done.
Consider this:
create an online profile for your parents. Create an email which you can monitor.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/account.asp

Create ONE PDF file for all the supporting documents including invitation letter.
Fill in online application on behalf of parents and attach the PDF.

You will receive notification / acknowledgement and finally approval in email. Send the approval letter to your folks back in India they can print and go to nearest VAC to get the stamping or medicals if asked.


I suggest instead of going for Super Visa, first time you apply for 'normal' 10 years Visa called Visitor Visa or multi entry Visa. Procedure remains same, advantage is you do not have to go through the rut of parents medicals.

After Stamping , your parents/grand parents can come and live with you for 6 months. When they are here 3 months before the 6 months expiry, apply for extension for another 18 months ( Extn will be given under super visa clause). Your parents can stay in Canada beyond 6 months while waiting for extension , its called implied status.
Advantages - Its easy to get visitor visa stamping and do not have to go through the medicals ( or will have to go through it while in Canada, easier ! ). Been doing this for my mom and MIL for past 4 years plus recently got this done for my friend.
I am sure hardly any consultant out there will advice you this easy route.

Make sure your Parents passport is valid for 8-10 years since these visas expire with the passport.
