Why do you want to move to Vancouver? IT is the only sector of the economy that is flourishing right now. But for majority of jobs the pay is actually less than what you could get in the GTA. Also, with 15% foreign home buyers tax, the construction industry is in limbo and the home sales are down. Despite of it all, the houses don't come cheap (~ 900k in burbs alone); and it' an expansive place to live. A congenial weather doesn't work if you have to struggle for work and housing. Toronto is still the Economic engine of the country, thus boasts of jobs both in terms of quantity and quality.

I would suggest you to get back to Toronto and leverage your SAP skills. Try to get a foothold in IT - ERP or BI.

Or, better still, since you have a Canadian passport try to find an IT job in one of the outsourcing companies (Capgemini, TCS, Accenture, Cognizant, etc) and find a way to get on some Canadian Client site.

Try leveraging your Canadian passport to your advantage. I think you should be fine.

Febpreeth:
Thank you for your advise.
GTA is a crap place to be as you do get depressed by the snow and the cold. Though I had a decent job and car, I was never at home in the GTA as it was too cold.

I agree that Vancouver prospects are dim. But I am trying to eat from food banks and be on welfare / Mac Donalds job there. (This is after my mother's demise only and it may be 2 years away from now). Also there are other personal details for me moving to Vancouver (Specifically Canada) that I donot want to share for the fear of being rediculed by IT professionals.

Gulf is a good option but Oil price has taken a toll on the jobs.

How is the house rent ? As house prices go more and more, rent is expected to be decent or a little high. Is it possible to get a 2 bed apartment (even basement) for $ 800 + utilities ? Is it possible in Vancouver ?

Since now the Canadian govt. has doubled its CCTB from $ 225 a person per month to $ 450 , I heard that inflation has gone up and all the poor people with children are having lot of disposable income that they spend on fast food and beers.

Wow.... a sad story, to say the least! However, it is depressing to see you wondering about your parent's demise. :( I think you should wish for your mom to live longer and see if there is something you could do to enhance her health condition, even on a psychological base, instead of thinking of her as an obstacle for your move to Canada. I doubt even 600 bucks a month here can give you much peace of mind. See if you can do something or other in Madras. IT industry will continue to limp along, and gulf is unlikely to see upswing anytime soon. Too many global hurdles for the economy to roar again, which is needed to see rise in oil price to any measurable degree anytime soon. The Western oligarchy is still serious about wanting to wreck Syria more thoroughly so things wont change much until the Western economies are reset; the current whispers about the need for a global war for such reset are outright stupid and will not yield anything similar to the previous World wars (during those, Germany became the slave for West to draw upon thru reparations, which lasted well into 1990s). So the global situation is indeed very gloomy. If the West wanted genuinely reset their economies after 2008, they should have gone after the real culprits the way Iceland did but as we know, they only resorted to printing more money and punish the savers thru meager to no interest income. I noticed that the rates offered by Indian banks on forex are quite low now-a-days, again due to the Western folks hunting for better yields. The way to succeed likely demands change of areas and grab what jobs available: I moved from Agrotech to chem engineering to materials to fuel tech to now earth science!!! We hop to where opportunities lie and become masters as fast as possible. Good luck. You may be into architecture but you can also hop into neighboring specialties if that is what is needed.

You won't get even one bedroom apartment or basement less than $800 anywhere in Metro Vancouver. Two BR is anywhere from $1200 upwards. Rents have gone up considerably with the property values, and is a great bone of contention among the renting population here. See this:

Good luck in your endeavors.
