No personal experience. However, I know the Grand Cherokee is quite popular and a decent vehicle. Chrysler screwed it all up by coming up with minion versions of the Jeep Cherokee (compass, patriot, and others) which did not do well and looks like crap.

The wrangler tends to be a favorite for off-roaders and is not a family car by any means - it's rugged, rides rough, sits high, and has tarp body that is brutally cold in winter.

For a new driver - insurance is an important consideration - which I believe is higher for Honda when compared to Toyota vehicles.

My personal choice would be an electric vehicle if most of the driving is around town or a hybrid if affordable.

Other than that, I would go for Corolla - just for its reliability and life. The newer models have started to catchup on style factor.

Hyundai Elantra provides the best bang for buck if you are not fixated on brand.

Reliability aside, I have found Toyota vehicles start having more issues with the suspension and shocks (make a thud noises when going over a pothole) over years than Honda. Thus, affect the driving comfort-ability. All my Cars have been Toyota so far, and this is a pretty common trend. I drove Honda couple of times with the same make and year, and they are sturdy as rock in a similar situations. So, I think I am going to avoid Toyota for my future vehicles, regardless of the gas mileage.

Even though they have improved the style, still a tad behind other brands.

Just my opinion based upon my experience. Take it as a pinch of salt when deciding for yourselves :).

FP ~ Thanks for sharing your opinion ... Will look seriously into Hondas now ..

BTW - I own a Corolla @ 135K and it does not go thud over potholes ... whereas some others Corollas I have driven do ... it may be subjective to how the car has been driven ... not suggesting bad or good driving ...just bad or good roads .

I love my 'yota !!

I drove VW Jetta and Hyundai Sonata on my last 3-4 US trips and loved driving the Sonata ....

If I have to buy my next car , it would be most likely a Camry --- if it was my first , it would be the latest Corolla... they looks better now , having said that , latest Civics are also very eye catching .

Has anyone owned or currently own a SUV? Everyone's opinions seem to revolve around the Toyotas and the Hondas. If you have, any opinions - good or bad?
