Agreed. But Indian Railway free tickets are better than Air India free tickets.
I ride the train every week. The TTE seldom comes. Even if he does he is incharge of 2 compartments only. That is just checking 160 passengers. Working should be streamlined.
I am guessing that the workers repairing the tracks are hardworking and dedicated. We need to bring more hard work / accountability into the IR.
That being said, I am really worried about the budget tomorrow. This can make or break the stock market. As I am heavily invested, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Bullet trains is the necessicity of the day. Why should commuting take 12hrs, or more.
These projects have long gestation period, hence these should be implemented now, only then we can see the results sooner.
population explosion has created an urgent need of faster transit movement at affordable price.. which only railways can provide.
When has India's budgets changed the fate of the common man and enhanced the budgeting of Public offices/Govt. expenditure? I can only see one instance when Manmohan Singh brought liberalization. Other than that, it's mainly the tradition, which needs to be done every year. I think, that's all about it. Expecting more than that would be foolhardy.
But, as Modi promised the moon, his fanboys are holding their breaths.

Approx cost of the project of bullet train from Mumbai- Ahmedabad is Rs 60000 cr.
Considering the cost involved in making bullet train, I would say it is not a wise thing to do at this time when you have so many other things to complete. This huge amount of money can be used for better work than just a travel from two cities only. Only rich or middle class is going to enjoy bullet train , so better use air than rail. This requires huge investment which is not worth investing at this time.

Air India has much less staff as compared to Railways. No one travels in plane as compared to trains. Railways need to start cutting down some of the expensive perks that is eating into the revenue.
Bullet train was announced to please Modi. Nothing else. Bullet train needs exclusive tracks. It can wait. The need is to increase the speed of the existing trains. There is a test run going on from Delhi-Agra to cover in 90 min. Currently travel time is 120 min. Like that if we can get trains going at 150+ km/h, that's more than enough instead of putting money on bullet trains which would be white elephant.
Do we need bullet trains while a trip from Bengaluru to Chennai by flight is around Rs 1488 (peanuts to the Indians who do businees which require them to travel at limited time).
What purpose would bullet trains serve? We are not too much into manufacturing and we have good toll road. so why the need?
On another note, the budget was a decent one. Sensex was - 300 points and went to + 450 points and closed down - 72 points.
We expect the sensex to raise slowly and reach 30,000 by the end of the year.
Cheers to India.
