My brother just landed from India. He has Diploma Electrical Engineering from India. He was Maintenance Manager in India. Now he wants to pursue same position here. Some friends suggested to get Electrician ticket. He don't want to go for lower job. I am in accounting field don't know much about his field. Could any one suggest what he should study for supervisor or Manager job. I think he should go for some degree. but which will really helpful? Thanks for any suggestion

Given the obvious barriers to foreign professionals in engineering field, combined with differences in communication skills between two countries, it might be very difficult, if not impossible for your brothers to find a job he wants.

I have seen maintnance manager in Canadian firms with no engineering degrees, but these are the people who started their career with same company and reached up to that position.

Also, the availability of such jobs is dependent upon what skills your brother has, and what is the demand for such skills.

Given the continuing decline in manufacturing sector jobs, people with engineering background will always have hard time finding job atleast in Ontario. Not sure about provinces like Alberta or Sask.

Best bet for your brother would be to start as a technician, get some "Canadian" experience and than make a move when opportunity is available.

IMO, getting a Canadian degree without Canadian experience is a waste of time and money.

The very first thing he will have to learn is not to consider any job BELOW his level or dignity. In this country, every job should respected and done with sincerity and integrity. A manager or supervisor cannot operate (execute his duties) unless he knows and understands what his team is doing and how. Getting a degree will not give him that knowledge and understanding -only real life experience will.
