You know I was watching old pictures and videos of ourselves and our friends who immigrated from India, Phillipines, China. The old pictures / videos are from their previous country, 10 to 15 years ago.

The thing I found out was all of the friends look very happy in the old pictures/videos with big smiles and laughter on, but the background of the pictures is sordid. The houses are small, not well furnished, no good cars, some had bicycles. The neighbourhood is not well to do. The clothes are worn out. People everywhere too much population around.

These same people are now owners of huge mansions, driving big luxury cars, shopping weekly in Costco for $200 - $300 is no big deal at all. Good clothes eating top notch organic food. Dining out. No big queues. Some of their kids doing quite well in higher education. So what happened Canada made a big difference to their lives; both positive and negative.
Positive; Their livelihood has improved considerably, this is what the immigrants really get attracted to.

Negative; However there was a massive loss without them realising it. The happy smiles and laughter seen in the old pictures and videos has faded - got lost -dissappeared! Makes me really wonder....we kind of are all in the same boat, I hope some of you can relate to this.

So they are successful but unhappy?. Perhaps being misread because in 10 -15 years , the age catches up and you look more mature (read serious) in photos.
No doubt immigration is stressful at least in initial years, if you are seeing those successful Canadians still grim in photos, these are those folks who continuously compare themselves with others and feel miserable watching other side of fence.
To counter you, 4 years after migration, I and many of my friends who came along here, are happy without any sense of loss. I will never go back to India. Sense of loss I personally feel is that I should have been in these countries earlier when I was younger , may be as a student. Same view point by many of my friends. We may be wrong but there is no way to prove otherwise.
So Lets not paint all with same brush. Happiness and sadness in life is inevitable whatever your coordinates.

Guys,
After reading the above posts, I can tell you what is even more worse. That would be my situation.
I came to Canada in 2002 and left in 2011. From 2002-start 2004 I suffered greatly, but after that was in a steady job and life was OK. My salary was very small but good enough to have 2 cars. I made the biggest mistake of not buying a house, though I could have.
Now that I am in India, I shudder to come to Canada again as I know that I will have to struggle for 1-2 years to again steady my life. Besides I also know that India offers better salary than that of Canada and Gulf is even more better. So I am very hesitant to come back.
Once can struggle only once in his / her life and after that he gets enlightened. I am enlightened !!!
