:) Hi All!

I am visiting Vancouver in the first week of July for about 4 days with my spouse and two young kids. Can anyone suggest a good and neat place to stay in Vancouver which is easily accesible for moving around?

Please also guide about the best mode of transport for travelling to and fro to the airport and the must see places :)

Would be glad if you could recommend some good eating places for desi food. I heard that some parts of the city are not safe for moving around after dark. Is it true?

Your suggestions are most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Where do you pick up a taxi at Vancouver International Airport?
Taxi stands are located just outside the exit doors in both the domestic and international terminal buildings. Watch for the green signs indicating taxi pick up location.

What does a taxi cost from Vancouver airport to downtown Vancouver hotels?
Usually about $25 to $30.

Travel time is about 30 minutes. If you arrive at YVR between the rush-hour times of 7AM to 9AM or between 3PM to 6PM, the rate and travel times will be slightly higher (45 minutes, and approx $30 to $40).

Vancouver Airport Taxi Sign Tipping: Standard is about 10 to 15%.

Google for hotels and you may want to stay in Downtown. What is your budget per day for hotel?

Taxi will be better option with kids (will take around $35-40 to downtown from airport). You can also take skytrain from airport if you are staying in the downtown.

Try to stay in the hotel which is near to skytrain.

You can google for places to see (as it depends on what you like).

Lot of Indian restaurants in downtown and other places too.

Avoid east hasting/east pender in the downtown (cheap hotels in that area too you should avoid) and all other areas are ok.

What is your budget?

- In June 2009, we had stayed in Richmond (La Qunita). It is very nice and close to the airport. We paid about C$100 per night for one room with 2 double beds.

- The free shuttle of the hotel picks you up from the airport (before 9:30PM) and drops you off as well.

- The breakfast is included in the room rate.

- The bus service is available to the places like the ferry terminal (for going to Victoria), Capilano Bridge and downtown.

- The kids below 7 years ride free in the bus.

See if this suits your needs.

The downside: There is only one small desi food place available that is next to the hotel. But lots of vietnamese restaurants are nearby in addition to a good thai place and pizza hut.

Dear All

Thanks a lot for the tips. We prefer the downtown and have shortlisted a few hotels.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers!
