I have to laugh when "Prof Emeritus" exposes ignorance and then blames another country's entry laws.
He should have known that OCI is not dual citizenship. India does not offer/recognize dual citizenship. OCI can at best be compared to Permanent Resident status in India.
Next, he states "Why would a citizen need a visa to enter his own country?"
Hmmm, he is not a citizen of India. He voluntarily gave up Indian citizenship when he acquired US citizenship.
Writing moronic blogs and articles shoots his own credibility, expecially, when he is a "great" prof of a very good school.
Kulb - it's good you posted this article...it's a cautionary tale for others.

Coming to think of it, isn't a 70 year old required to have the most recent U visa in his current passport along with a renewed OCI card? Anyone over 50 is required to update their sticker and card per Indian consulate. In that case, why would an old passport be an issue?
Details are missing in his lopsided story.

I believe that the requirement is to get OCI again only ONCE after the age of 50 (if the applicant was less than 50 when they first received their OCI visa). In his case, he was already past 50 at the time of application so he did not have to renew.
Are you sure? I thought one has to get new sticker once he crosses 50+

You need a sticker only "ONCE" upon completion of 50 years of age. If the applicant is already past 50 at the time of first application for OCI, then there should be no requirement to get it again.

Specifically read the section - In case of issuance of new foreign passport, Item # 3, which states the following:
"After the completion of 50 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued ONCE after issuance of a new passport "
