Dear All,
My visitor visa expires on 22 June 2009. I applied for an extension 30 days well in advance as the CIC website suggests and am still waiting for a reply. My return tickets are booked for 30th June 2009. My question is can I stay in Canada till atleast the 30th of June if I do not receive any reply by then? Or will this be considered as overstaying by 7 days?
My second question is, when I do leave on the 30th of June, what kind of questions will the authorities at the airport ask? I have a proof of receipt of payment for application of extension and registered first class mail post receipt to their office in Vegreville, AB. Will that be enough?
My third question is, do they return GST & PST taxes to visitors on the airport for whatever shopping purchases they made during their stay in Canada? Is there any way to get these taxes back since technically we are not citizens of the country?
All replies will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You can legally stay in the country until a decision is made, if you are leaving before that then you need to inform CIC that you are leaving the country.
Also, they wont ask you any questions at the airport when you are leaving...you will just board the flight
