I had a few questions regarding sponsoring my soon to be wife. Any help will be very appreciated.
1) I am going to get married soon in Pakistan, and will be sponsoring my wife. I was wondering how long the process is after i put in the application.
2) I don't have complete information, and have heard from different places, that I need to be married a certain time before I can sponsor. I received my PR just a month ago, so I was wondering whether that will play a part as well (do I need to be a PR for long?).
3) Additionally, is it possible to get my wife on a visit visa to Canada while her application is being processed.
4) Is it better to get married here in Canada and apply, will that make the process any faster?

Didn't you just say in another post that you will be applying for your PR in march 2009?

1) It generally takes about an year or less. It all depends upon how good and clean an application that you make and provide all of the supporting documents that they need and the other clearances that you have to obtain. All this is based upon the fact that the person you are marrying has a Passport to travel.
2) It will be nice if you quote your sources rather than make us wait for it. I am glad that you already received your PR very soon. No, you don't have to be PR Long. But you need to get married first, before you can sponsor your spouse. Prepare yourself well and be thorough in your preparations. Please see the other responses provided for the preparation.
3) Yes you she can apply to enter Canada on a visit. But it all depends upon the Immigration Officer who will be approving her Visa. If you are sponsoring her first and then applying for a visitor's visa, then the chances are very slim. So, be guided by that.
4) If she enters Canada on a visitor's visa and you both decide to get married here, then, the process might be a little faster, provided you can furnish all of the clearances and medicals etc., in a very fast means. Obtaining a Visa for a single Lady from any country is currently very difficult. (Because they know that something is up).
