The Auusies have done it again.
They have targeted an in-form player, who is winning matches for India, and intimidated him to the extent that broke his composure.

I watched the highlights of the test and all the Australian bowlers were constantly intimidating Gambhir.

They were glaring down at him, threatening him with the ball, passing comments, threatening by lip movements, blocking his running path etc.
The umpires and match referees don't seem to have noticed that - how come?

In the end, the poor guy lost his composure and slightly elbowed Watson.

It is amazing how this is becoming a culture with the Australians - every newcomer gets ordained with this sledging doctrine.
Two-pence, good for nothing , upstarts like White, Watson etc. who haven't even played half a dozen tests yet, have started following the footsteps of their "senior" players like Ponting.

There seems to be different set of rules for Aussies, England and rest of the world specially for south asian teams

Match referee should have seen what prompted Gambhir to do this? How come Watson is penalised only 10% of match fee.
Hope replacement for Gambhir also performs good today

This is not a fair cricket.

I agree that it may be a plan/frustation of Australia, so that Gambhir do something silly.

But still elbowing somebody is not acceptable and Gambhir deserved one match ban. On the same note, there must be more punishment for Watson or Katich or in general Australians who almost always start all this abuse.

Indian or South Asian teams need to learn the trick or push for blanket ban on verbal abuse. Also, they have to make verbal abuse a big issue whenever it happens in the match. There is no doubt most of the abuse by Australians/British/South Africans go unpunished.

Still Gambhir deserved the punishment. We should not wait until he slapped somebody (remember Bhaji's slapgate).

Totally Agree ... He should have been aware of what AUS were trying. This is not first time that they have done.
There must be some thinking behind the response. Some are good at it - some are not. This is what happens if you act in the heat of a moment.

I remember while playing gully cricket ... we simply used to laugh (sometimes even pointing at players) or dance after scoring a boundary. Just irritate them more and force them cross boundary.

The whole point of gamesmanship is to unsettle your opponent. If trash talk was all that got Gambhir riled up, then the weaker guy lost by blinking. In this highly commercialised form of cricket, be prepaed to be mentally hazed by your opponents.

This is not the same cricket where tea break really meant tea and crumpets. That aspect of cricket was lost when they moved ICC headquarters to Dubai.
