My dependent son is aged 21 today. if i apply for permanent immigration as Skilled Worker well before he attains the age of 22, shall he be entitled to permanent immigration even after crossing the age of 22 when he will no longer be a student and will also be, in all probability, employed and thus will not be dependent upon us for all purposes?

Please clarify quickly so that I can apply without any loss of time.

Thanks!

When you apply for PR to Canada as a family and all of you go through the normal formalities such as police scrutiny, medical and financial checks etc., you all can immigrate together. There may be extenuating circumstances, such as balance of their study, support and assistance in closing up the residence etc., might call for a different date of entry. If the family now wants to get in, and you are already here, then your dependent can immigrate together with you. Once he gets in and becomes a PR, he is free to go out and return as he pleases and stay out for a maximum of three years. (He becomes a non dependent after 22)

Now the question is, have the dependents gone through the immigration processing. If so, contact the nearest CIC and ask for the procedures to follow for their entry. Alternately, since you are already here in Canada, contact any of the Immigration Help Services and they will help you with the same. It is FREE.

Hope this helps you.

Good Luck.

Freddie.

Hi Freddie,

From what I understand of his post, the OP has not even applied for his own immigration yet.

To the OP - if you apply TODAY, there is a wait time of atleast 4 years (under normal circumstances) - unless you have a work permit or arranged employment. Whenever your immigration is complete, your son's case will be classified as per his age on the date of entry.

Hope this clarifies.

Good luck.
Hiren

What you say is true. If the dependent turns 22 prior to the date of approval, then the dependent has to apply for immigration just like what the Parents have done and go through the qualifying process.

The only edge the dependent will have is his Parents support and sponsoring if they do it for him/her.

I over looked that point.

Thanks again.

Freddie.
