Hi CD Experts,

Before I ask my question here, I would like to sincerely thank CD (experts and community) for the help in completing my citizenship application by answering all my queries so promptly.
As a result I have now finally mailed out my application. I know its still a long way to go, but at lease the "shubh-arambh" or "bismillah" is done.

Now after mailing out the citizenship application, me and my wife, with our 10-month old baby, are planning a trip to India. I'll be back in about 3-weeks, while they will be returning after about 8-weeks.
My question is: Are we required to notify CIC about this? I vaguely remember reading about this somewhere, but now I can't find it.

Can you experts shed some light on this?

Thanks again.

- A

NO!

As you have already completed the residency requirement, you are not required to report any absence after applying for citizenship.

Good Luck.

May be the OP is asking about informing the CIC that he is out of country temporarily (and not about the physical presence towards the citizenship) so that they will not schedule his test/oath.

If you have recently submitted the application and plan to travel immediately, there is no need to inform the CIC, because it is highly unlikely that you will get a call for your test so early. Also, CIC is known to make mistakes even after you inform them about any change. Considering this, you might consider to have someone monitoring your Canada post mail while you are away.

May I please draw your attention to one of the points mentioned on this page:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/cit-info.asp (see "Making an inquiry about your application" )
Am I not understanding this correctly, because it says that one should inform CIC if leaving for more than 2-weeks in a row.

Please clarify.

Even if you carry both Citizenship card and Indian passport, don't show both. Once you take the oath, you are a Cdn and not an Indian and hence all you need to show at the POE is the citizenship card.

Please bear in mind, there is a regulation to go into effect either June 2008 or June 2009 that will require passports to enter US by land. All air travel into US currently require a passport.
