Hi guys

Need u'll again .

I have been checking out a lot of colleges like Sence , humber etc , and found that their part -time certificate in Accounting take too loong . All thier degrees are for 2-3yrs .

My hushband has a lot of Accounting experience but no degree (has a B.A from India) . So u know how it works in this country . He wants to get a diploma in a year's time which CDI is offering . They have an Accounting and payroll certificate . The classes are from M-F from 6-11am , which suits my husbands needs well .

I just need to know whether getting a degree from PVT colleges is money down the tube . Will the compaines consider the experience or where u got the degree from .

Pls help , we need to make a decision quick . We have been dealing with this subject for a long time but with the confilicting views we have got we have not been able to come to any informed decision .

And CD is my last resort to sort this out .

If any of u guys can recomend any other Colleges u'll have been thru , pls do write . I am open to all and any suggestion .

Do careful research before going for a private school. They cost much more money than regular public schools. If you have limited time to make a decision here is what I recommend. Call 1-2 accounting recruiters and then call one or two employers and tell them you are doing some labour market research and want to choose a school to attend. Ask if they would consider hiring someone with a private school diploma. Ask them if they would hire someone from CDI College.

In a competititve economy, there will be plenty of jobs however lots of competition. One can get an accounting related job even without the training and work IN THE FIELD while upgrading one's degree/diploma .. even if it takes 2-3 years. These may be junior accounting jobs, book keeping, etc.

Another option is to go directly for a CA, CGA or CMA designation which takes about 2 years for each but allows you to work while working towards the designation.

CDI is one of the worst colleges that I have ever heard of. No proper faculty, poor condition of classrooms etc... That college was mainly started to give Student's visa to enter Canada and for EI recipients who receive free training in CDI.
I would not say that people who study in CDI will never get a job or that every employer would reject a person who has studied in CDI but only that it is not that reputable and is not worth the money spent. I would also add that there are some more private colleges started by Chinese people which is even worse than this.
I would suggest that you look for other places to study. Humber, Seneca, Sheredian, George Brown are all reputable places to study.
