I would like to know if anyone has used sites such as salebyowner etc. to sell their properties privately. I would like to hear about any personal successes/failures.

Also, if guys know of any other good sites to sell properties privately.

I know two people who have tried this and both failed in fact I have his listing right now

Its a gamble - you'll find a lot of buyers want to split the savings in commissions with you - you'll also find lots of lowball offers and agents coming in promising the earth.

Its hit and miss - the key to netting the most is properly pricing your house , ensuring it looks in top condition and marketing to the widest possible market (the 3 P's of market - product / price / promotion)
