Hi All

Am a new joinee in this club.

I've got an offer from one of teh software companies in Toronto.

I'm joining as a SAP-CRM consultant. I have done my B.Tech, MBA in India.

I have visa interview in Canadian High Commission in Delhi tomorrow (28th June).

It would be great if any of you can help me in discussing do's and dont's for the interview. Also any specific dress code or etiquette to be followed?

Please note that, 8 years ago, my student visa application for US has been rejected. Will it have any adverse effect on my tomorrow;s interview.

Please advice

Thanks

Hi,

Congratulations! This is a good opportunity.

Wear your confidence, that's the only thing that comes to my mind. For Visa's they normally see how comfortable/confident a person is answering them. A soft-spoken/smiling persona can help too. Stay normal as much as you can. Treat this like another job interview...and I'm sure you'll be good.

US rejection for visa should be nothing to do with this interview.

May be other CD's can help more on do's and don’ts.

Jona

And I have done my interview very well and I was aksed to get medical assessment.

Can anyone advice me as what are the chances of getting a visa if we are asked to attend medicals after one-one interview.

Thanks
Sharath

U r correct, Jona. It is almost like getting the visa. There will be a problem only if the medical results are not normal.

Thanks Jonav, CDN and Kisi..

I already planned to share my interview experience with co-desis who intend to appear for interview. Here is the report...
____________________________________

Finally I've crossed the hurdle. Interview went very well. Here is the chronology of events and Q's & A's.

I reached the High Commission in Delhi and presented my interview call letter along with interview schedule letter to one of the initial cabins, who asked to get in to attend interview.

I waited for around 30 mins and I was called into one of the sound-proof booths where an elderly Canadian lady (may be around 55 years of age) was already there.

I calmly entered and wished her. She asked me to take the seat. Below is the discussion:

She: Is this you? (Showing my photo in my passport)

Me: Yes madam, that photograph was taken eight years ago.

She: Its time to get it renewed

Me: Yes, after a couple of years, once it gets expired. To brief up, I have submitted my application and documents at VFS on May 15, 2007 and after a week, I got an interview call letter. I have scheduled the earliest available date and am here.

She: So you did not find an earlier date than this?

Me: No, madam.

She: ok

Me: I have got all my original documents and a set of photocopies as well. Do you like to glance through them, madam?

She: Yes, I want to see original documents.

Me: OK, I'll pass you one by one.

She: That's fine.

Me: ( I have passed over letter of support from my solicitor, letter of support from Employer in Canada, their offer letter, labor market opinion documents)

She: Now, do you know who this solicitor is?

Me: Yes ma'am. They are my solicitors and they are a group of eminent immigration experts.

She: Do you know what they do?

Me: yes, they present my case to HRSDC and they support my proposal to work with the prospective employer, Infact the employer has referred the solicitor to me.

She: Did they ever speak to you.

Me: yes, before taking up my case they asked me few questions to understand authenticity in my proposal of visiting Canada.

She: What did they ask you?

Me: They asked me

• What are my educational qualifications?
• Why am I going to Canada?
• Will I return to India after the duration mentioned?
• What is the job profile?

She: ok, what were your answers?

Me:
• I have done my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and then pursued Masters in Business Administration from Hyderabad.
• After that I've been working as CRM consultant for last three years and have been closely working with Indian companies in implementing CRM Solution. Now I felt my work portfolio will be well complemented if I work with companies in the western part of the world.
• I did not concentrate of getting a job in Canada, but wanted to work with international companies and get the experience there. Meanwhile when I searched for openings in CRM on web, I came across the opening with the prospective employer. I have sent the resume and after a couple of interviews, I got selected and thus am here.
• I will definitely return to India, once the duration is completed.
• My job profile revolves around implementing CRM solutions at Employer's clients and working with them in training their personnel.

She: ok. What is your employer into?

Me: They into software services, e-commerce, search engine optimization solutions and onsite staffing. I was taken for onsite staffing wherein I have to work predominantly with their Clients.

She: What is CRM all about? I have no idea

Me: ok, CRM is Customer relationship Management which means the technique or strategy by which business handles customer information, acquires new customers, maintain relationship with customers and retain them.

Since I'm from Industrial engineering background (specialization of mech engg) and I've done masters in Marketing, I'm conversant with concepts of customer behavior, customer retention and so. So my educational background and subsequent experience help me in handling this stream of work in Canada.

She: That's good. What about e-commerce. There is lot of noise about this word.

Me: E-Commerce is a tool which helps people to buy goods or services with a click of a mouse. It's an integration of online shopping cart, payment gateway to an ordinary web portal.

She: But shipping these days is a menace. Don't you think, it's a disadvantage?

Me: Sometimes it is, but not always. Most of the online shopping carts have tie-up with shipping companies like DHL, Blue Dart which provide tracking services, again on web. So e-commerce equipped with all these services is very much customer oriented.

She: OK. Finally, why was your US visa rejected twice?

Me: Eight years ago, after completing my engg, I had written GRE, TOEFL and got admissions in 8 universities out of 10 univs applied for. But I could not furnish requisite document to the consular officer to prove that I'm not a potential immigrant. I could not convince the officer and I blame myself for that.

She: That's ok. So, when are you planning to leave to Canada?

Me: I have to report on 23rd of July. As soon as my visa is issued, I'll book my flight and try to leave.

She: ok, since you are going for more than 6 months, I have to recommend medical assessment. When are you flying back to your home-town?

Me: Tomorrow, madam

She: ok, can you wait for few hours, so that we can provide you medical assessment form

Me: Sure, madam. I will.

She: Thank you then, please wait in the lounge.

Me: Thanks madam. Have a nice day ahead. Bye

She: Bye

That was the conversation.

Let me know if this could help anybody. Also wish me good luck for my medicals and impending vida stamping.

Thanks & Take Care
Sharath
