I changed my bell mobility plan to have unlimited incoming calls plan and then when I saw a huge bill the following month, I asked the bell customer service representative why, despite only receiving calls all the time my bill was so high?
His answer - unlimited incoming is free only for calls from local numbers. For any other calls from outside my local area and abroad, airtime will be charged for every incoming call.
Can anyone suggest me if there is real 'unlimited incoming free' plan from any of the other providers?
I am looking for a plan with a budget of around 100 dollars or less (including taxes) per month and I don't really make a lot of out going calls or roaming calls but I get a lot of incoming calls from both within Canada and outside Canada

This is interesting that CSR told you that they will charge airtime for calls received from outside local area ...
As far as I know as long as you are in the local area all calls received should be free ( it is just using airtime ) ....
Probably you need to understand your bill properly ...
I would take the bill to a BELL kiosk or to their Missisauga office to understnad the Bill ...
I am guessing that the plan was not changed properly ( but need to be checked properly ) ...
If you must switch ...
I heard fido was giving incoming free and with some additional fee ( Mat be ) you can actually use rogers network all over canada
( I am not sure if you have access to rogers N/w being a fido customer ... even though fido is owned by Rogers now )
I even heard that Telus had some plans where incoming was free ......
Rogers should have too but havent heard about them .....
I dont know if fido and Telus are giving these plans still ....
Again I would say to try to sort it out with BELL itself first as probably your plan was not changed ...and if it was changed try to find out if it was changed in between the billing period ( this can be the reason ) ...

I am with Fido and have the Unlimited Incoming Calls package.
It should not cost you anything to receive calls regardless of where they are from. As long as you are in your local calling area any call you recieve is free. I have never had a problem with this with Fido (now a part of Rogers).
My only guess would be is that they haven't changed your plan, or you were not in the local calling area when you received the calls.
I've been with Fido with this plan since they introduced and I've had no problem. My bill works out to about $75-$100/month (I make a lot of outgoing calls as well).

Check with Fido.
- I got a plan which has unlimited incoming call (Provided you receive the call when you are in the local area, not receive when you are in Texas or Halifax), 100 minutes talk time, 1000 nights and weekend minutes, call display, three way calling, voice mail, call waiting.
- My bill is about $52 after tax and has never changed for more than a year from now. I should say I am over all happy about it.
- More importantly, I do not have agreement with them. I had to pay $50 for a nokia phone and I am OK with that.
- The good thing I found is, They charge per second for outgoing call, you know when you make a call from cellphone, most of of them often last for 15 seconds, so they don't cut 1 minute in place of 15 seconds call but just 15 seconds.
- Well, there may be several deals around the market but I am just Hmmm.. lazy to check all of them..

I have the same plan as JRF with text messaging added as well.
The per second billing is key. Fido is the only provider that has this feature. It does end up saving you a lot of minutes.
Many people are turned off by Fido as they think it's a small, unreliable company and unstable service but their prices/plans are excellent and now that it's part of Rogers you have the added benefit of using both Rogers and Fido frequencies so reception is top notch as well.
I'll be with Fido for a long time!

Yelling on the CSR at phone / wireless company would not help. If some one talks to the CSR nicely then he/she would be willing to go out of the way to help you.
I am with Rogers for around 8 years now. After talking to a couple of CSRs nicely I have been able to improve my plan significantly. I agree they offer only per minute billing but I am more than happy with my plan in which I get;
250 minutes of day time calling.
Unlimited Evening and Weekends starting from 6 PM to 8 AM
Free 100 North American long distance minutes
Free Rogers to Rogers incoming and outgoing calls.
Call display, Call Waiting, 3-Way Calling
Unlimited free incoming text messages and
2500 call transfer minutes every month
All this costs me $37 taxes included.
To top it, every 2nd year I get free phone and 3 to 6 months unlimited incoming and outgoing calls and text messages.
I do not even think of changing my phone plan.
