For now, we are in a low state of aggitation and it is safe to assume they will collect info on specific individuals. However, this legislation is forever. It takes only one act of terrorism (any time in the future) and you can bet that vast amounts of information will be collected.

News Release from Bell:
2006 06 29 - Bell working to correct inaccurate media reports
Bell Canada is acting aggressively to correct misinformation reported by many Canadian news outlets this week regarding the privacy of Sympatico customer information.
As you may be aware, the stories suggested, inaccurately, that Sympatico - under a recently revised Customer Service Agreement (CSA) - would begin monitoring content accessed by customers. The false allegation was that we would make such private customer information available to law enforcement authorities without a legal request for information, such as a warrant.
This is simply not true. Bell Canada has a long and established history of protecting the privacy of its customers and we do not take such claims lightly.
Sympatico did update its CSA in May 2006. However, to suggest that we are illegally or routinely monitoring our customers beyond legislative requirements is inaccurate and false. Bell collaborates with law enforcement agencies only when presented with legitimate court-ordered warrants.
It's that simple.
In response to these stories, our media relations team has proactively contacted journalists to set the record straight.

And your point is???
Don't you think that if an attack like 9/11 was to happen on Canadian soil, it would make sense for the sake of our security (et tu Big Vee) for CSIS to get as much data as possible to weed out the terrorist slime? I think that as responsible Canadians, we should welcome any effort by the Govt. to safeguard Canada against terrorism.
Master Lao -Tzu of the Tao te ching fame once asked
Can the affairs of our hearts
and affair of state
be so unconditional
that we grant unqualified permissibility?
Sadly, in the world we live in today, the answer is Yes.

Regardless, we cannot and SHOULD NOT allow Canada to go down that slippery slope. While I do not agree with the tactics used by terrorists, I also do not accept that granting "unqualified permissibility" is the only way to rid of terrorists.

Since you did not understand my point, allow me to clarify. The most common response to this issue is - what do you have to hide? Well, how would you like to be held and questioned about the most initimate details of your life. Everything from your personal life, relations with your spouse and others, medical issues, religious and political points of view. And the person questioning you only need a hunch. If they have a hunch - maybe there is a chance you desereved it. How about going through this after showing the wrong person a finger on the highway?
And by the way, they can put you in holding for over 36 hours, disrupting everything in your life. And for what? They can let you go without explaination. What do you tell your family, friends, co-workers etc?

While this may hold true for the States, thankfully we live in Canada and here the public outrage against any civil right violation can cause the government serious trouble. CAN and WILL DO are two different things.

Oh your post made sense. I think I made it clear in my response. It is the supposed fame I questioned.

I did not accidentally profess to be a security expert did I? Thankfully not. I do not care how it is done. I just care that it is not done on the backs of civil liberties that I hold dearly.

Ahh yes, the States. I disagree. Canadians are more likley to comply with such legislation than the US. I feel the citizenry of the US has been misled into accepting the patriot act.

The issue is not coming after me for watching porn. The issue is coming after me because I flipped a finger - and then answering questions about my fav porn. Please, try and fully digest my post - I know it is a bit dense.

Yes, but it is new again. Forget birthing democracy, we are talking the death of democracy. Little by little. Brick by brick.
