Hi Guys,

I have heard Jagjit Singh is coming to Vancouver in April 2006 for a concert. Any idea on whether he is also coming to Toronto? Any feed back on the same will be highly appreciated. I am dying to attend a Jagjit concert

Thanks in advance

I saw him in Roy Thomson hall last year. I wonder if he would come back again this year.

Strictly IMHO, his live concert are not as fun as his recordings are (can be applicable to most of the artists). He tries to compress all his ghazals into 3 hours programme. He sings more popular ghazals, while staying away from classical based ghazals. He did not sing any ghazals from "Mirza Ghalib"

I attended his concert for first time in Vadodara. Then I saw him again last year.

In his Toronto concert, he tried to mix his ghazals with popular Hindi film songs.

Even though it would be worthwhile to spend your $$s to see him live, his concerts do not touch your heart.

I have to agree. I went to one of his concerts years ago...late 1990's. I had a great seat too (first row-centre) but as meghal says - it didnt move me the way the recorded music does.. Plus during the intermission he had gotten drunk and spent the second half just singing fast punjabi songs..

I dont think its worth the money for me - however for someone else it might be.

I agree aswell, somehow its not the same, 2yrs back i was all excited when i got a chance to attend his concert in Delhi, but it just wasnt how i expected it to be. I think its a different feel to it listening to him in the comfort of your own living room or car..

On the other hand i attended Adnan Sami's concert in Toronto last year and enjoyed it immensely.Maybe its something to do with ghazals.

Thanks guys for responding to my post. Well Ive been listening to Jagjit since 1986(as a 12 year kid) to present. Still have the same passion when I hear his voice whether in a Serial Title song(Panchtantra, Intezar, Hello Zindagi,Manzil Apni Apni) or a Movie numbers(Sarfarosh,Joggers park, Umar recently). Well you obviously cannot match him with Adnan concert (he cannot jump or do rocky numbers like Adnan). He has his class of his own and after 20 years of listening to him I still find him fresh whenever I listen him. Hopefully he will come to toronto again soon..........

I think the person who posted message about Adnan sami concert does not want to compare Adnan & Jagjit.

It is about the satisfcation you get after attending the program, and how well, the performer was able to meet your expectations.

When one goes to see a Jagjit concert, (s)he obviously has great expectations. But I believe Jagjit tries to appease the entire spectrum of listeners rather than just concentrating on chosen few. So the entire effect gets diluted. No one expects him to sing and dance or perform antics, but still expects more than what he is delivering.

I would still go to see him again, but with less expectations. It would be more satisfying for me to listen to "Teri Khushboo Mein" or "Koi Yeh Kaise Bataayein" in the comfort of my car

Thanks meghal for clarifying that, i was not comparing Adnan Sami and Jagit. Agreed there is no comparision, those two are very different, though adnan also renders some slow songs beautifully esp the one in Joggers park.I was talking about enjoying ghazals ,probably for me.... i like to listen to ghazals when i am in the mood for it, perhaps a quiet dinner with family or when i am relaxing or even cooking, during concerts there is whole lot going on...and to my ears the music does differ in a recording compared to a live performance. or maybe i'm just very picky about the setting.:)

Oh and if you know Adnan . he cant really jump about ... !:p
