Cheated Indian workers want to go home
Kuala Lumpur, Feb 28: At least 134 Indian nationals, lured to Malaysia by false promises of agents, have been camping outside the Indian High Commission here for the past few days, after fleeing from their employers who allegedly ill-treated them.
Clutching suitcases with all their possessions, including a few electronic goods, two batches of workers from an electronics firm and 47 persons from a garment factory in Johor Baru have left their employers and have sought the help of the Indian High Commission here to send them back.
Another batch of 28 workers from several workplaces have also fled their employers. All of them have complained of being cheated by the job agents who lured them with promises of high-paying executive jobs.
In reality, most of them ended up working long hours, upto 18 hours a day, on very low pay. \"I was promised an office job and a salary of 1200 ringett (about 14000 rupees) but ended up carrying gunny sacks at a supermarket with a salary of 300 ringett only,'' Murugan from Tamil Nadu said.
\"We have called their agents and are doing our best to ensure that they are sent back to India,\" an Indian High Commission official said. He said most of them would be able to leave for India by Thursday.
A batch of 47 workers are camping at the Batu Caves, the Hindu shrine where the world's tallest statue of Lord Murugan in located. A sympathetic Chinese family has taken it on themselves to feed the homeless workers camping outside the High Commission building. (Agencies)

Hi Sankaracharya!
I was in Malaysia some years back. I would say that the Indian counsulate in Malaysia is better than saudi Arabia. In saudi arabia, the high comission tells indians who had been cheated ( A labourer hired to do labour work ends up rearing camels in the desert for no pay , only food) to go back to their employers since it is better than being in india. This is what the Indian high comission in Saudi Arabia says. And anyone is Saudi Arabia is powerless against the saudi's. (but please donot then compare Saudi to be worse than Canada. For professionals Saudi Arabia is far far better than Canada and i am not talking about IT people)

I think I did not communicate properly. The objective of this posting is not about Malaysia or Saudi Arabia.
It is about Canada. Please find my opinion here:

High paying jobs, Executive jobs how many potential Canuck Wannabe's ask this question about Canada, day after day in our CD. How many do not know the concept of labour jobs. They land up here in the hope of Office jobs, and you can see them wandering mindlessly, with poor winter gear around Square One, visiting one labour agency after another.
Aren't many of immigration agencies in India promising heaven to the potential immigrants?
The objective is to draw a parallel here between their plight and a Canadian immigrants plight. Many Canadian immigrants quietly pack the bags and leave for home. We do not get to hear their story.

Many people compromise themselves to these kind of jobs in Canada & tell us that life is much better in Canada, tell us that there is better infrastructure & less pollution, better systems, etc.
I could not compromise & hence going back. I was willing to compromise for a year or so but not longer than that. Luckily I have family who is willing to accept me back, I have a house, etc. so do not have to worry about basic things. Many people do not have anything to go back to hence stay back.
According to me, Canada is good for 2 kinds of people - one who have high calibre & who would succeed anyway & second category is for people who were hardly able to make ends meet in India. Ofcourse you need lots of guts.

Let's make India a better place !
The only difference is that in Malaysia it was Private recruitment firms and in Canada it is the Canadian govt. lures immigrants. When we migrated, I remember Canadian Visa officers attending Overseas Property show in Dubai to sell Canada.
They want people with good education (without that you donot make enough points) and then folks with good education come here and find themselves doing labor jobs. Of course this was the situation when we migrated. Now I see some efforts on the part of govt./HRDC to help new immigrants find decent jobs. Though a lot needs to be done.
