We are planning to land in Toronto in March 2015, apply for a Maple Leaf card, and then return back to US to wrap things up and move back to Canada after end of school year 2015.

we are hoping that the Maple Leaf card can be received by a friend and then he could mail it to us and that way we will have the card when we move back in summer once the schools are over.

In this connection I wanted to know what the current time lines are for receiving the Maple Leaf Card, and if this would be a good strategy.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Please see this website. The number of days it takes to obtain your First time PR Cards are mentioned there in. It does change. Currently it is 33 days.

You will have to provide the CBSA, the Border Security, the address with a POSTAL CODE the very first time you are entering Canada. (Also keep the phone number handy too.) Then, he will have a chance to receive it. Also provide him with an Authorization letter to accept any mail that comes at his address with your name or your family members name on it. That will give him a fair chance to receive it, just in case he needs to sign for it.

When he sends it to you, where ever you will be, make sure that he sends it by a courier or by registered post.

It has been working for a long long time that I know. So, it must be O.K. for you too.

FH.
