Guys,
I plan to visit Chicago and Detroit for 3 nights and 4 days. Driving on morning on first day and come back on 4th night.
My main purpose of visit is to see the buildings of Chicago and do some shopping. We are two families (4 adults + 3 teen age kids)
first time for me, so any Recommendations where to say with afforable price? which places to visit?
Is the city of Chicago and Detroit safe to travel alone in the night time?
Any areas to be avoided?
Does any CD want to give me any tips on the travel.

If you looking at the city limits of Detroit, then no, it's not safe to wander around. There are a few pockets that are safe, but I'd stay away from the city limits. However, metro Detroit is perfectly fine.
Henry Ford Museum is a great place to visit for a day. Along interstate 94 which also will take you into Chicago five hours later.
The Rennaissance Center right by the river near the windsor-detroit tunnel is another place if you are looking for buildings. Parking is $10 or above.
For a skyline view of Detroit, you should swing by Windsor below the Ambassador Bridge to a riverside park nearby.
