I am moving from US to Canada and was wondering what items, if any, from below list I can import legally in Canada?
- Spices
- Rice
- Lentils
- Pulses
- Dried Beans
- Flour
- Sugar
- Salt
- Pasta
- Sealed (unopened) Pasta Sauce
- Sealed (unopened) Salad Dressing
- Oatmeal
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.
First off, Why do you want to bring them from USA? Which part of Canada are you relocating to?
In general, you can't bring meat products, fruits and vegetables.
Being able to bring in lentils, Pulses etc depend on the discretion of the customs officer and mostly you'll not have any problems
You do not need to import these stuff form US or anywhere. Canada has a large south asian population, unless you're relocating to Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or in woods. As far as I know, Toronto and Vancouver both have lots of Indian stores. I am sure other provinces have the same as well.
First, find any Gurdwara or Temple where you live in Canada. Then grab a piece of Indian language newspaper from there. You will get virtually any information on the Indian stores in your vicinity.
By the way, where are you located in Canada?
I am moving to Toronto. I have been to Toronto a number of times & I know I can get all this stuff in any India store. My point is: If can import, why should I throw close to 200 dollars worth of stuff and then buy them again?
