Atee,
Congratulations. You have taken a bold decision . You really explained the facts on which your decision is based. I remember that few days back you started the thread and perhaps I was the first person to respond to your thread. As I narrated earlier that I myself has gone through the same mental situation . As my visa was going to expire , twice I bought my ticket for Toronto and at last moments I decided to stay back.
The person who is well settled in native country always find it very difficult to move to a new country . He begin to compare the possible scenerio in both the country , projecting the progress he can make at the two places, projecting what future he can give to his family especially to kids. Its normal human tendency.
As Rajan Desai has rightly stated in his many posts that mostly a new immigrant is well aware about the hard and struggling time is awaiting him in canada, normally he thinks that after initial phase of 2-3 years eventually he will settle down and will lead a comfortable and happy life.
But in most of the cases that does not happen and one found himself doing odd jobs with unending wait to get a job in his own field.
My friend I can understand that you have a taken a very good decision though some of your near and dears may not be agree with you and say that should have gone to canada. When one take such decision it is almost chosing between two worlds.
Wish you good luck,

PS: I request you to put your this post to Article section of main page as it gives good analysis about immigration to canada.

You seem to have made the right decision, considering your circumstances.

There might be times in future when you might feel whether you have made the right decision or not. But stick to your decision.

Who knows, you might be able to visit Canada in future as a tourist & enjoy the natural beauty. Your kids might want to study in US/Canada when they grow up & then you can join them. That way you will be able to enjoy better.

Why don't you try for places like Dubai & Abu Dhabi where you will get both, Western facilities & Eastern culture? At a later date, maybe? You can move there if you get a good job.

Thanks & regards.

Rajan.

I am not writing this post to question your decision. It is only that some of the reasons you have mentioned do not appear to be valid.

You mention that desis you have known are confused abut the following issues:

ii) Their Permanent Resident ship, as the next intention is to get citizenship. (Living 36 months out of 48…Quite tough isn’t it!)

What is confusing about that? There is nothing tough about it either. It is only a matter of time that it takes to qualify.

iii) Their citizenship, since no appreciable benefit can be drawn form it.

The benefit of citizenship is quite appreciable in fact. It allows one to enter the US and several European countries without the need of a visa. It also allows one to work in the US on TN visa which is much easier to obtain than the other work visas.

vi) Their educational enhancements, that requires a lot of money.

The money is made available by the provincial and federal governments as low interest loans. If “education enhancement” gets you a better job and more money, what is confusing or wrong about that?

vii) Their children’s religious future, in the absence of religious environment and of course in the presence of legal homosexuality.

There is nothing like “absence of religious environment” here. You are free to practice as much religion as you want.

Why is legalizing homosexuality bad? You talk as if homosexuality is a crime. How is it detrimental to any member of the society if someone is a homosexual? If a practice does not affect the society or its members in any adverse manner, why do you consider it criminal?

As a matter of fact, religion has hurt people more than anything else. Why don’t you recommend criminalizing religion?

viii) Their children’s overall future, undoubtedly the schooling is free but what about heavy fees at college/university level. They will also have to do low profile jobs to meet both ends at evolutionary stage of their careers.

Again, as I said, loans are available to students for university studies. It is upto the student utilize the loans, secure his future and pay back the loan.

xiii) Their living conditions including house hold things, furniture etc. as some one in an article said that he was lucky enough to gather used things courtesy Canadian garbage drums.

That is largely untrue. It might be something that some of the immigrants engage in to tide over the initial period, and it is not from garbage that things are picked up.

People put out things that they don’t need any more. Some of them are in pretty good condition. Why immigrants, I have seen several white Canadians doing the rounds of streets looking for usable stuff on those special days when furniture can be put out for collection.

xiv) The medical facility that is free, but what to do with the goofy doctors.

Who told you doctors here are “goofy”?
Quite a few hospitals and doctors that staff them are some of the best in the world.

Being 32 years old father of three children below 6 years of age, only son of parents above 70 years of age and wife who can hardly speak English, I am not convinced enough to move to Canada.

You have taken a wise decision.

Hi Folks!

1. Cynic,
I think one site is enough to understand atleast half of the situation i.e. http://www.canadaimmigrants.com/forum.asp (Pl. also see previous posts...)

2. Mercury6,
My visa expiration date is round about 20th February, 2006

3. DiogenestheCynic,
You are very right some of my reasons may sound invalid since I have never been to Canada. Undoubtedly, you are the very much eligible person to comment as you are in Canada and have gained considerable Canadian Experience, if I am not wrong.

What I have mentioned in my previous post is based upon information gathered from different sources that carries views of different people. In my post I had already mentioned that these are personal views. I have only tried to make an effort to extract most common feelings that people have over there in Canada, of course in order to make a decision.

My dear friend your comments also support the fact that people live in Canada to get citizenships to move over to other European countries/US. Than what should I perceive about Canada, a stepping-stone?

I cannot comment on the loans, medical facilities and other facilities as I have no experience. As I have repeatedly mentioned that my views were based upon different sources of information. I might be totally wrong.

And my dear since homosexuality has no harm in it, as you said, (the US/Canadian doctors who are some of the best in the world have other views...), than why should one criticize it.

Thank you all for giving nice replies/comments.

Take Care
Atee

Atee,

Decision liya hai to chalo, lakin the sites aap ne visit kiya hai, are they refering engineers, doctors, chartered accountants yaan peoples with MBA.
I have MBA, lakin I worked HK and US before coming here in analysis. Mein is waqt doing research in small and mid sized companies. Salary as per Canadian standard badiya hain, lakin initially even after working in HK and US I working at shack of a job earning $6.85 per hour yeh country mein. Ekdum cursing!
I in financial field being so hanging out with such peoples and am being member of one MBA association, and many plenty peoples from all over duniya coming here with MBA and getting entry level job within 3-4 months salary $14-$17 per hour tak. They saying it better than in their country. After their prowess showing in company they working they rise.
Only recently, one Indian girl working in financial company showing her good abilities within 4 years is handling a $22 billion (b ke saat) and she started with $14 in same company. Now her salary over 6 figure.
Of course many plenty studying to do. I am also CFP doing.
Apla opinion mein, MBA log ke liye itna duress nahin hai aur you can aim for 3 figure salary per hour after few years. Apla office mein sab ka dream yeh hai aur idhar sab kisme ke aadmi kaam karte hai. Pakistanis, Indians, Libyans, Chinese, Moroccans, Egyptians, Polish, Hungarians, Sri Lankans, jo bolo woh milenga idhar. Pure financial research company hai, both in macro and micro economics.
Phir bhi, aap apne marzi ke maalik ho, lakin yeh definitely find out karo, ke kitne MBAs disillusioned hain yaan aake.
If any consolation to you, many peoples with MBA degrees from Kelloggs, IMD, INSEAD, Columbia U, I met at recent function are unemployed aur woh Canadian hain, lakin they are sure they not remaining long unemployed.
