I am from india and in Canada on work-permit
I had applied for PR in Feb 05 at Buffalo and I have received the acknowledgment and they have given me the file number as well.

Does it mean that we documents are complete?(I understand that though ther yet to assess that but I am only concerned about the completion of the documents as of now)..or can they ask for more documents OR they can send some documents/forms back because they're not complete?? What is the next step and how much more time it would take before they will get back to me about interview/medical.

Another thing is whether they would be assigning some person for background check in india because my parents told me that somebody caome over to my native place asking the neighbours about me, what kind of visa I have…any criminal records etc???

AOR ...is only what it says , Acknowledgement of reciept.

The file will be assessed at a later date and they can also ask for more documents if required.

As for background checks, CIC do sometimes contact local authorities for a check.
