Hi
My first msg this.

I am set to go to McGill for a Phd this fall. I applied online for a CAQ and sent my documents through speedpost. By some miracle, they did reach the office concerned in Montreal (at least the Canada post site would have me believe so).
However, the online profile of my CAQ has been showing the status of the file as "open" (whatever that means) since before the documents allegedly reached them! They have also not updated it and there is no ackwnoledgement of the reciept of my documents. They do have a number at which you can call and get put on hold. I did get through to a person but they werent able to explain much and just asked me to call later next week.

I am totally confused abotu what that may mean!
Please help

Archi

You did apply to McGill and got entry into the course of your choice for your Ph.D.

Good to know that you have faith in Canada Post. Also good to know that your papers have reached the Quebec Immigration Department.

It becomes difficult to know the status or the progress of your files without a file number issued to you. If you have such a number, then your inquiry would have provided you with exact information. Hence your assumption that the files have reached them is, just what it is. That is through the Postal end.

So, you will have to wait till you hear from them. When you hear from them, It will have a number on it that could be used to trace, track or use to get more information. Generally it will be within 30 days. Since it is already there, please give it a couple of weeks for them to do their assessment.

Until such time, the file will show 'open', what ever it means or indicated by that. You do have a little bit of information that I don't have, to use, my comments are based upon the scanty information that you have provided here in.

You also have a contact there and number to get in touch with. So, hang in there for a full week. Then resume where you left off.

Good Luck.

Freddie.

Thanks for your msg Fred
And I apologise if I sounded too irritated with my last post.

Actually I had sent my documenst thorugh the Speedpost and the Indian website coudl not locate my shipment (it still cant). It was much later that I found the Canadian site which did say that the documents were delivered. But then the CAQ office has not acknowledged reciept. This, and a lot of other confusion about the process, perhaps made me sound the way I did.

I apologise.

Best
Archi
