Some studies have proven that DRLs pevent a certain number of accidents.
I have personally found that DRLs indeed add to safety, especially when driving in bright, blinding daylight and there is a vehicle in your blind spot(s).
If the vehicle in your blind spot(s) has a DRL, you can see the light in your mirror - which adds to your safety.
