Aah you see because I am a woman, educated and westernized that I disagree with you :p

JK - actually as I mentioned earlier, I have researched this quite a bit - including long discussions with professors in Uni - Though you have a right to your opinion as do I - I think its like discussing religion - its too personal a belief.

I warn you: I question a lot. I feel thats how I learn. Especially traditions..whether Indian or "north american".

I thought that was supposed to be a subtle insult:D .

Do you consider yourself a feminist??

"Progress comes from deviation".

On a side note if anybody finds my comments or posts offensive or irritating please ignore it and if that still bothers you; please write to me and I will demonstrate.

Nah.. thats just the usual bickering between myself and Chandresh :)

Yes I am a feminist. By this I mean I believe women should be measured to be equal to Men. I dont think we are necessarily the same as men, but should be considered no lesser or greater than men.

Being a feminist means breaking down barriers to gender differences including long standing mores and norms. Being a feminist also means equality for all, whether male/female, young/old, white/black etc.

feminism isnt the hatred of men and all things male as is the stereotype :)

What started as a very useful thread has meandered into useless information.
CD's..., Please try to stick to the topic and a very useful one at that.

I think one important thing is to let your parents know that you haven't forgotten how they were instrumental in building your foundation. Maybe not in those exact words, but that the values they instilled are still alive and well and that you intend to pass them on to the next generation. I think its important in your conversations to cite examples of things they've done in the past that made you a better/stronger person. I'm sure they'd like to know that all their hard work didn't go to waste.

Don't make critical decision without getting their feedback or at least informing them prior. Share you achievements with them, that'll make them immensely proud. Maybe water down your lows, but share those with them as well once in a while so that they know you're being honest.

And you don't always have to agree with your parents, that's just fake. Be gentle when you you disagree though, empathize with them and remember they were brought up in completely different situations that shaped their perspectives.

To sum it up with a cliche, make them feel loved. Doesn't matter what way you do it, everybody has a different perspective on this.

While we are on this subject..... what ARE the scientific reasons? I don't see how science is getting involved in kitchen vs. nature...?
