Hi Folks,

May i request all desis in Canada to kindly advise if these appliances bought from Gulf will work in Canada or not......

1- Compaq laptop
2- Nokia mobile phones
3- Panasonic Camcorder

Also pls advise on subscription of credit cards as we would have Visa cards from India & Gulf. Would that be acceptable to build our credibility in Canada or it requires to have credit cards issued from Canadian banks.

Your inputs would be of great help for all prospective immigrants.

Thanks in advace with Best Regards

Uday

Hi Uday,
Just remember all electric appliances in canada work on 110 voltage.

1- Compaq laptop - 99.99% of laptops support 110V (110V-220V)
pls go thru this thread http://www.canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=4715

2- Nokia mobile phones - as long as it is a triband fone ie Supports GSM 1900 (basically its called a triband fone in ME)

3- Panasonic Camcorder - check for the power rating of the charger should read 110V-220V.

for more dteails check this link http://users.pandora.be/worldstandards/electricity.htm

rebello has answered your electronic queries.

your creditcards from india and gulf does not mean anything in canada for credit history. you have to get one in canada and start afresh.

Would like to add my 2 cents.... Camcorder available in ME are having PAL color system whereas in North America it is NTSC. So if you want to use your Camcorder you must have multisystem TV ( and VCR, if you want to make copies).

Thanks and regards.
