Hi All,

We are prospective immigrants to Canada, and plan to relocate in March/April once we get out visas by this year.
I have a few queries and would be glad to receive appropriate replies.

1) We are planning for a baby to be born in Canada. Now, as we will be alone over there, (we don't have any near relatives in Canada) is it advisable for my wife to give birth over there, or should we plan to move her back to India for delivery?
At least in India, her/my parents can take care of her.

2) If the baby is born in India, can we enter Canada with the baby and then apply for necessary papers, or do we need to have papers for the baby before we are allowed to enter?

3) If papers are required from India, what are they, and long does it take to get them in India?

4) How are the pre & post delivery care/medical facilities in Toronto?

5) If we want our parents to come and stay with us for 6 months in Canada, is it possible to get a visit visa for 6 months, and secondly, how long does it take to get the same from Canadian Embassy, Delhi? Both of them are senior citizens.

Thanks

Hi,
I have answers to some of your questions:
* When we came here (me and my wife), we were also like you. We did not have relatives/friends....no body. But we just landed. We did jobs, full time/part time, pass thru the hard times, saved some money and then planned for a kid, excatly after one year of landing, our daughter was born. There are few benefits of giving birth in Canada. First your baby will be born Canadian, second if your wife starts working some where and she completes 900 hrs on payroll, she will be eligible for 55% of her gross income as Maternity benefit for 50 weeks that means she will work for 900 hrs and she will enjoy with the kid at home while getting money from the Govt. for free for 1 year!!! Moreover, if you come with a small kid, it might be very very difficult for you guys to settle, you will be new to country. How would you manage for yourself and for a small kid? Have you imagined?
As regards to taking care of the delivery/baby, you do not worry about that. I am telling you there will not be any problem at all. We also did not have any body but still during the whole preg period, my wife never had any problem, touch wood. There are free Parenting classes conducted by the government, free medical help line (24 hrs.), you can call the paramedics any time, if need be, you will be assigned a doctor and a hospital for the delivery. The hospital assignment is not just random. they will give you chioces of few hospitals. You will have to go and take a guided tour of the hospital. If you like the hospital only then you will be assigned. If don't, no compulsion. In our case, we rejected one hospital because we did not find that place good due to some reasons. Your wife will be treated as a guest and not as a patient. The delivery will be done as per your choice. They can not pressurise you to go in for a surgery. If you want normal labour, no problem. They will wait even if they have to wait for 24 hours. You will have a nurse and a doctor who will watch your wife continuously. SO MORAL OF THE STORY IS: DO NOT WORRY. MY ADVISE TO YOU WILL BE THAT IF YOU CAN WAIT TO HAVE KID FOR A YEAR OR TWO, JUST WAIT. PLAN FOR YOUR SETTLEMENT IN CANADA. PREPARE YOUR SELF AND YOUR WIFE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY (EQUALLY IMPORTANT). Moeover you have support of all members of Canadian desi. Do not hesitate to ask for help from me at any time.
** Calling parents from India at the time of delivery is very easy. All you have to do is (which we did exactly): prepare a declaration that your wife will have delivery on so and so date, you do not have any relative in Canada to take care of baby, it will be your first/second...whatever baby so you need parents to be present with you. you will take care of them financially and medically; attach your income statement/job letter/last year income tax return; bank statement showing that you have enough money to take care of them for few months; get a letter from the family doctor stating that since you do not have any of the relative so some one is needed; get your declaration notorised from a Notary public (will chage you $25).........send all the documents to your parents in India, aks them to go to Canadian Embassy, Delhi or Chandigarh early morning around 4-5 AM, stand in the queue so that they will be called early, also get all their property papers/pension copies/bank copies with them just to show the VISA officer that they intend to come back and will not stay permanent, REQUEST FOR MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA AND NOT JUST ONE TIME VISA, AT THAT TIME THEY WILL GET IT BASED UPON THE FACT THAT THEY WILL KEEP COMING/GOING SO THAT KID CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF PROPERLY.......if all goes well, they will get VISA in 15 minutes.

Good Luck!!!
